Jersey Mike’s Subs in Riverside helps make wishes come true THE DISH
Scene… The staff of the Jersey Mike’s Subs in Riverside and employees of PepsiCo raised over $25,000 for Make-A-Wish Connecticut by holding a “Day of Giving” event last Wednesday. On that day, 100 percent of all sales went to charity at sub shops nationwide. It was all part of the shop’s “Month of Giving” event. Brian O’Hagan, owner of Jersey Mike’s in Riverside, and Carl Kazmierczak, VP of PepsiCo sales, were on hand to make the local check presentation. The nonprofit Make-A-Wish Foundation helps fulfill the wishes of children with critical illnesses.
Out there… The annual Youth of the Year Dinner at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich takes place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7. It will recognize 2021 honorees Demarys Aceituno,
Lauren Herrera and Karen Maldonado, with the Champion of Youth Award presented to Lisa Stuart. The event is co-chaired by Greenwich residents Icy and L. Scott Frantz and Lisa and Bruce Quackenbush, with honorary co-chairs Liz and Rob Kirkpatrick and Kristen and Dan Rosenbaum. Capacity is limited at the event, which will be held outside on the turf field adjacent to the main clubhouse. Individually boxed snacks will be provided by Food Design, and hot and cold beverages will be served. The event will also be streamed to Facebook and YouTube. Scene… The Greenwich Arts Council is featuring a virtual event called “Photo
Journey to Cuba 2020,” with Greenwich residents Mike and Sally Harris at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8. They will present a part travelogue and part photography exhibition, showing Cuba during two prepandemic trips in January 2020 and March 2020. Over the past decade, they have traveled extensively throughout the country and abroad, photographing different cultures, interacting with people they encounter and exploring places where others live. Scene… The 13th annual Greenwich Boat Show 2021 — called Experience Life On The Water — will be a three-week-long virtual event running from April 5 to April 25. This year’s adapted show format creates an extended opportunity for boaters and dealers to safely connect online, in-person and on-water before a much-anticipated 2021 boating season. Out there… The Westport Country Playhouse is presenting a “Story Hour with Jenny,” a live, virtual series for children in grades K-3. There will be an interactive reading in English and Spanish of the picture book “Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood,” at 10 a.m. and noon Sunday, April 11. The one-hour Zoom session will be led by Jenny Nelson, director of education and community engagement at the Playhouse. The book, written by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell and illustrated by Rafael López, reveals how art can inspire transformation, and how even the smallest artists can accomplish something big.
