Philip A. Fecher, Jr.

Philip Augustus Fecher, Jr. of Stamford passed away on November 21, 2021 at Greenwich Hospital with his loving family at his side. Born on January 20, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Philip Augustus Fecher, Sr. and Helen Muir Fecher, Philip was a descendent of John Muir, the Naturalist. Philip’s family moved to the countryside of New Bern, NC where he attended schools in NC before being nominated by Senator Sam Ervin to attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY. At the Academy, he was awarded the Admiral Emory Land medal for excellence in naval architecture and graduated with honors, held a gold star, played intramural softball and was a member of the Pistol Team.

In his community, he was a devoted parishioner of St. Leo the Great, Bible Study member, St. Leo Fair volunteer, founding member of Fairfield County Chapter of Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP), was on the Board of Directors of Greenwich Symphony, founding member of CT Maritime Association, Associate Member of Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers, past member of Association of Shipbrokers & Agents, received an Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement from Kings Point Alumni Association, was a member of Ferrari Club of America and past Cub Scout leader.

After sailing as an Officer on chemical tankers, Phil retired as Senior Vice President, Chartering Manager and Board member for Stolt Tankers & Terminals. He held a USCG Master’s License to sail as Captain for any size ocean ships, was awarded the U.S. Merchant Marine Vietnam service medal and retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander.

Phil had a collection of classic cars, his favorite being the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE featured in Ferrari magazines. It won many platinum awards, including the highest award, the Certificate of Authenticity.

He is survived by his devoted wife, the love of his life, Maria and blessed with a loving son, Philip A. Fecher III of NJ, two sisters, Therese Yourshaw, Falls Church, VA, Marguerite Herald, Moncks Corner, SC and two nieces, Mary Helen Gregory (Eric), Lorton, VA and Cynthia Yourshaw, Springfield, VA. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Helen Alexick.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Greenwich Hospital for their very compassionate care as well as our personal MDVIP physician Dr. Gail Fennell for her very fine care of Philip.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 4:00PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, 11:00 AM at St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at Long Ridge Union Cemetery, Erskine Road, Stamford.
