John “Jack” Lloyd Anner III

-

Loving husband, father and grandfather John “Jack” Lloyd Anner III of Greenwich, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children at his home on July 1, 2022. Deeply committed to his family, his faith, his country and his community, Jack was a devoted husband to his wife of 63 years, Rosemarie Therese Anner.

Jack got his education, including his law degree, at Fordham University in the Bronx, not far from where he was born and raised. He went on to a successful career working on labor relations with American Airlines, ITT and other big companies before going into private practice.

After leaving ITT, he transformed himself into an arbitration expert, managing a large caseload of both private sector and government employee relations issues. Jack was also a partner in the Greenwich law firm Singer, Anner, Pirelli-Minetti with his good buddy David Singer. He worked full time into his early 80s.

A fighter to the very end, Jack refused to stop going to work in New York City even after his diagnosis of severe lung disease. When taking the commuter train became too difficult, he learned how to use Uber (after a long learning curve in partnership with several of his children) and spent a good part of each trip correcting the drivers as they attempted to follow Google maps.

Jack was active in his church and community, serving on numerous boards and councils, including the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting, school PTAs, the American Arbitration Association, the National Mediation Board and the Local 32B-J New York Department of Labor NAFTA Panel. He was a co-founder of Boy Scout Troop 37 in Greenwich.

Jack was a loving, generous and supportive father to his five children: John (Devora), Catherine (Gregorio, deceased), Mark, Marianne (Peter) Katavolos and Amy. He adored his grandchildren: Marco, Eva, Olivia, Zelie, Sophia and Max. In an extraordinary month in 1998, Olivia and twins Zelie and Sophia arrived, giving him and Rosemarie three new granddaughters in the space of a few weeks.

As anyone who met Jack knows well, he was a passionate Yankee fan, leading to an ongoing friendly rivalry with the family of his Massachusetts-based daughter Marianne. He was a profound scholar of the Civil War and Winston Churchill.

Jack was an adored mentor to many members of his communities in Greenwich and New York. It’s safe to say that his political views were not shared by his children or grandchildren, but that never for one moment affected the love they all hold for him. He will live forever in our hearts.

Jack is survived by his sisters Kathryn, Mary Alice and Winifred as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Church at 469 North Street in Greenwich on July 7 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
