Republican Matthew Corey has invited his opponent, Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., to join him for a day washing windows in Hartford.

Corey, a Navy veteran who touts his blue-collar roots, emailed Murphy’s campaign offering to pay Murphy for a day’s labor or donate the money to a veterans charity, if Murphy works with him on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

“After 12 years in D.C. of just raising taxes and spending taxpayers’ money, it is time for Chris Murphy to learn what it is like to earn a day’s wages,” Corey said in a statement.

Murphy’s campaign received the email Friday morning, said spokeswoman Laura Maloney. Murphy had two previously scheduled events Friday.

Corey, a Manchester resident, has owned a window washing business for more than two decades. He said he has dangled off the side of nearly every skyscraper in Hartford with his crews.
