Try tai chi
Tai chi is a relaxing exercise that can loosen joints, improve balance and teach graceful movements to music. Fun and no pressure classes are held at 9 a.m. Thursdays in the auditorium at the First Congregational Church Auditorium on Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich, opposite Binney Park. Celebrating survivors
Greenwich Hospital will host “Swing into Survivorship” from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the Garden Cafe and Terrace. This annual celebration of cancer survivorship draws scores of former patients, volunteers and oncology staff from Smilow Cancer Hospital’s Greenwich Hospital Campus. Enjoy the camaraderie at this baseballthemed event and learn about ways to enhance your health with numerous resources available through Greenwich Hospital and the surrounding community. ‘Important Years’ art show
The Gilles Clement Gallery is hosting a show called “These Important Years,” featuring the work of contemporary artist Robert Mars, through Thursday. It celebrates the commonplace objects, brands and personalities of an America long past. In a thoroughly modern and exquisitely constructed manner, Mars captures the enduring importance that timeless 1950s and ‘60s icons bear in the broader context of popular cultural heritage and global history. Gentle Yoga and Tea
The Greenwich Historical Society will host Gentle Yoga and Tea from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays through June 27. All experience levels are invited to join this classes, which will be held on the historical society’s campus, followed by tea in the Artists’ Café. The $25 class fee includes museum admission. Certified yoga teacher Helena Svedin will lead the group in standing and seated poses, breathing exercises, meditation techniques, and more. Bring your own yoga mat, blocks and blanket. Art of Design luncheon
A pair of notable creative leaders will join together at the sixth annual Art of Design luncheon hosted by the Bruce Museum. The annual event, which benefits the museum’s exhibitions and educational programming, will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenwich Country Club. The luncheon unites American Fashion Designer Dennis Basso in a fashion-focused conversation with his friend Stellene Volandes, editor in chief of Town & Country magazine. The luncheon will also feature a fashion show, with music provided by DJ April Larken. Book and media Sale
The Friends of the Byram Shubert Library will hold its book and media sale this week. The preview night runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a $20 entry fee for the exclusive preview. The sale, one of the biggest in the state, continues with free entry from 5 to 8 p.m. June 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 8 and from noon to 4 p.m. June 9. Choose amongst over 40,000 books and media. All proceeds go to support programming at the Byram Shubert Library
Free Friday Films
The longest-running film series in Greenwich is held on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at the Greenwich Library, thanks to the Friends of the Greenwich Library. Films are free, and doors to the Cole Auditorium open at 7:10 p.m. No films on May 24 and May 31. The lineup continues with “I, Tonya” on June 7.
Newcomers Club’s anniversary
The Greenwich Newcomers Club will celebrate its 60 anniversary with an evening of Art and Prosecco. The special reception will be held from from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Flinn Gallery, located on the second floor of the Greenwich Library. Attendees can enjoy the current exhibit, “Time and Place: Works on Paper” and enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Cost is $25 per person. Garden tours
Join the Greenwich Botanical Center and hundreds of fellow gardening enthusiasts to gain rare access to highend private estates over two summer afternoons for the annual Grandiflora Garden Tour. These breathtaking properties feature the work of our community’s most celebrated horticulturists and landscape designers that reflect the dedication and exquisite taste of each homeowner. Ticket holders gain access to each garden at their leisure for two summer days: from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
