‘Time and Place’ at the Flinn
An exhibit called “Time and Place: Works on Paper” is at the Flinn Gallery through Wednesday. The four artists in this show use the medium of paper to convey their memory of places. Their two-dimensional work has the added dimension of time and space to acquire depth and intensity. The artists are Frances Ashforth, Lori Glavin, Justin Kim and Shona Macdonald. Speaker at Retired Men’s Association
The Greenwich Retired Men’s Association offers a free program every Wednesday that is open to the public; no reservations required. Music night at Byram Shubert
Gunsmoke has been entertaining audiences at fairs, festivals, clubs, private parties and concerts with classic country, western swing and rockabilly music for over 25 years. The band will perform from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Byram Shubert Library, 21 Mead Ave. Refreshments, sponsored by the Friends of the Byram Shubert Library, begin at 6:45 p.m.
Weekday farmers market
The Old Greenwich Farmers Market is held every Wednesday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at Living Hope Community Church at 38 West End Ave. in Old Greenwich.
Farmers market returns
The Greenwich Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. into the fall in the Arch Street commuter lot. Enjoy fresh Connecticut-grown produce all season. Swim to fight cancer
Swim Across America Fairfield County (formerly the Greenwich-Stamford Swim) has a new name but still has the same main goal: to raise funds in the fight against cancer. This year’s open water swim is Saturday and will be held on the border of Greenwich and Stamford in Long Island Sound near the headquarters of the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy, the Swim’s beneficiary. It begins at 7 a.m. from Cummings Beach. There are three different swim lengths: a half-mile, 1.5 miles and 3 miles. Boaters, kayakers, paddle boarders and land volunteers participate in this inspirational event with nearly 300 swimmers and 100 volunteers. To register, visit swimacrossamerica.org/fairfieldcounty. ‘Butterflies to Battleships’ exhibit
The Bruce Museum’s newest exhibition, “From Butterflies to Battleships,” will display the work of four American photographers: Margaret Bourke-White, Carl Mydans, Patrick Nagatani, and Brett Weston. The exhibit opens Saturday and runs through Sept. 1. It will showcase the tremendous diversity of directions taken by photographers in the 20th century, whether employing the camera in a documentary mode to record insect development and to chronicle historic events, or experimenting with the technology to create abstract or composite images. Greenwich Point art show
The Friends of Greenwich Point is sponsoring an art show featuring drawings, paintings, and photographs of the Point from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Innis Arden Cottage during the Experience the Sound event. The artwork will not be for sale; however, the artists will bring cards with their contact information. The Friends of Greenwich Point will also have a membership table set up at the event.
Art in the Park
The Old Greenwich Merchants will hold the second annual Art in the Park event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in Binney Park. Local artists will be selling photography, oil paintings, acrylic paintings, handmade crafts, mixed media, collages, ceramics and more.
