Racing back to the playground fun
GREENWICH — The playgrounds are open again in Greenwich — but with a warning that residents should bring their own supplies to disinfect the equipment before allowing children to play.
Under the town’s rules, playground visitors must practice social distancing and wear masks when close contact is unavoidable. Use of the equipment is at your own risk, and residents are urged to use their best judgment when visiting playgrounds at
Bible Street Park, Binney Park, Bruce Park, Byram Park, Cos Cob Park, Havemeyer, Loughlin Avenue and Pemberwick Park.
Greenwich closed the playgrounds back in mid-March to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus and only reopened them late last week.
Visitors to playgrounds should not congregate in the area or the parking lots, and should leave the property immediately when done. To avoid overcrowding, the town said residents should limit their visit times.
Signs are posted at each playground location that list the maximum number of visitors. For example, at Bruce Park, the 2- to 5-yearold playground has a maximum capacity of 20 people, and the upper playground has a maximum capacity of 50.
The town of Greenwich has slowly reopened facilities through the spring and summer, allowing visitors to return to parks and beaches, the municipal golf course, marinas and the town pool.
Parks will be monitored for compliance with the rules. Anyone who has been in contact with COVID-19 patients or is experiencing symptoms such as running a fever should not visit the parks.
“We will continue to provide outdoor recreation opportunities during this heightened alert period as long as everyone obeys the above safety practices,” the town said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the recommendations by the CDC, local, state and national authorities.”
