Mid-country Georgian is rich in amenities
In-home gym, wine cellar, tasting room and theater among its features
Sotheby’s International Realty is the listing brokerage for 50 Byfield Lane in midcountry Greenwich – a five-bedroom, 10-bath Georgian on 2.45 acres. Barbara Daly of Sotheby’s is the listing agent for the distinctive property, currently listed for $6.475 million.
“The house is located at the end of the cul-de-sac – one mile from the Merritt Parkway,” Daly noted.
The traditional Georgian colonial was custom built and completed in 2005. Ridgefield-based MacMillan Architects, and Kaja Construction of Wilton collaborated on the project.
“The house was purchased during construction, so the owner was able to spec his own finishes for the interior, and complete the third floor,” Daly explained.
The interior design and floor plan lend themselves to traditional décor; however, the listing agent suggested that the interiors might also work well with a more transitional aesthetic – balancing traditional with more contemporary design. The 7,739-square-foot interiors of the home were freshly painted this year.
A tour of the home begins in the entry foyer, an expansive, breathy space, with a staircase that rises to the second-story balcony landing, its ceiling soaring to 30-feet high. Parquet floors provide texture, and a curved archway beckons you forth to the stone fireplace awaiting in the family room. Another woodburning fireplace is found in the formal living room, which has French-door access to the bluestone patio out back.
The paneled library – also with a fireplace and French doors that open out to the patio – has built-in bookcases and a wet bar, making it an ideal setup
for a home-based office, if not a traditional library and reading room.
The home’s dining room is capable of comfortably accommodating seating for eight or more guests. The octagonal tray ceiling, crystal chandelier and wainscoting add formal flair to specialoccasion space.
Complemented by a breakfast room and a butler’s pantry, the eat-in kitchen is bright and spacious. The layout is built around a center island with a secondary prep sink.
Among the five bedrooms is the primary suite, with a spacious bedroom, a sitting room with a fireplace, walk-in closet and an indulgent en suite bath, outfitted with a dual vanity built-in, soaking tub and separate shower room.
In addition to the primary suite, four en suite bedrooms are on the second level, where there’s also a secondary laundry and another family room – this one with an oversized Palladian window.
The third level of the house affords bonus space and a bath, making it well-suited to a number of purposes, such as a playroom, homework room, office or creative studio, perhaps.
This mid-country residence is replete with amenities, including an in-home gym, a theater, and a custom-designed wine cellar and tasting room.
The 2.45-acre lot presents an opportunity for the next owners to add a pool, according to Daly, or to keep the level lawn pristine and unadorned – ideal for lawn games and special occasions.
Deer fencing helps protect the grounds, which Daly described as “beautifully landscaped and with the exceptionally flat backyard.”
Off the rear of the home, there’s a bluestone terrace, embraced by stone walls. It’s appended with an outdoor fireplace – allowing for the “outdoor living space” to be useful well into the autumn.
Daly pointed to some of the property’s other distinctive characteristics: garaging for four cars, and an elevator with access to three levels. Plus, the lot abuts the golf course at Burning Tree Country Club.
