Officials: 29 Greenwich High School students in quarantine
GREENWICH — Nearly 30 Greenwich High School students are in quarantine after one classmate and one nonGreenwich student tested positive for COVID-19, potentially exposing their peers to the coronavirus, the school district announced this week.
Mary Keller, head of nursing for Greenwich Public Schools, and Superintendent of Schools Toni Jones notified parents Wednesday that a student in the high school’s Cardinals cohort tested positive that day for the virus. As a result, 15 students were placed in quarantine after contact tracing was completed.
Also according to the message, the district learned of a student who does not attend Greenwich High School who tested positive and through an outside activity exposed an additional 14
Greenwich High School students — from both the Greenwich and Cardinals cohorts — who are now quarantining.
The school district’s Communications Director Sasha Houlihan did not immediately respond Thursday when asked about the outside activity or when the students would be allowed to return to school.
This coronavirus case at Greenwich High School is the school’s second this fall.
In September, a teacher at the school tested positive, causing a “minimal” amount of students and staff to go into quarantine, according to Houlihan.
Central and Easter middle schools have each had positive cases, as well, this school year.
In total, the school district of more than 9,000 students is reporting four positive cases in more than a month since the start of school Sept. 9.
