District reports 2 more COVID-19 cases
GREENWICH — Positive COVID-19 cases in the Greenwich Public Schools this fall have more than doubled in just over a week, according to school officials, with seven cases in total reported.
Families of students were notified over the weekend of two additional positive cases — one at Central Middle School and another at North Mianus School, a representative of the school district said Monday.
The cases confirmed Monday, Oct. 19, come in addition to the two reported by the district in its weekly report on Friday, Oct. 16.
In total, four cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the district since Oct. 12, compared to just three in total up to that point since the start of school on
Sept. 9.
Three of the district’s seven cases have been reported at Central Middle School. Greenwich High School has reported two cases, and Eastern Middle School and North Mianus School have each reported one case.
Through a spokesperson, the district declined Monday to provide additional information on the positive cases or how many students and staff members were affected.
The school cases come as the town, and the state, are experiencing upticks in the coronavirus. Town officials confirmed Friday that 29 residents had tested positive for the virus in the past week.
Hospitalizations were on the rise as well. Greenwich Hospital reported a rise in patients, up from three last Monday, Oct. 12, to 10 on Friday, Oct. 16.
“It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what’s causing this increase in town,” First Selectman Fred Camillo said. “I’ve said from day one: No matter how good we’ve been here, the virus knows no borders. I will continue to say this until we’re on the other side of this. We want people to have as much normalcy in their lives as possible but just do things in a safe manner.”
