A child’s plea to wear masks the right way

- Daniella Mancini Old Greenwich

Dear editor,

My name is Daniella Mancini and I live in Old Greenwich. I am a sixthgrade student at Eastern Middle School. I am writing to you this letter because I am concerned about the COVID-19 virus and the way people are not being careful by not properly or not wearing a mask at all.

First of all, the pandemic is not over. When I walk around a store, I would see most people have their mask under their nose. So it just defeats the purpose of wearing an effective mask, by not wearing it properly. Possibly if everyone wears a mask correctly, the amount of cases could go down. And, maybe COVID wouldn’t be a bigger problem in Greenwich anymore.

When I walk around a store, I would see most people have their mask under their nose. So it just defeats the purpose of wearing an effective mask, by not wearing it properly.

In addition, when you walk around people with your mask under your nose, if you have the virus (which you might not know), others around you might catch it. Or if it’s the other way around, the other person has the virus and you are breathing in their air. This is one of the many ways of catching COVID-19, but effective mask wearing can limit chances of exposure for everyone.

Finally, proper mask wearing could help the cases go down. Right now, Greenwich is a red zone for COVID-19. Even if you are walking beside your friend with your mask off, you don’t know if they or you have COVID. So it’s safe to always wear your mask.

In conclusion, the question, “Why wear a mask covering your nose?” Well we have to remind ourselves that the pandemic is not over; You might not know if you have the virus, and if you follow the rules you can help save lives.

Thank you so much for your time. I hope people will take COVID-c19 more seriously so we can get through tough times together.
