KEEP AN EYE ON

Point-blank problems: UConn is ranked No. 271 in the nation in two-point shooting and is one of the very worst among high-major programs. The Huskies are shooting 46.1 percent on 2-pointers for the season, 42.6 percent in their last three games and shot 40 percent in Saturday’s loss at Creighton.

“We just have to keep going, keep getting good shots, and hopefully we just start making them,” coach Dan Hurley said. “You have to make them if you want to win. Otherwise, you’re just gonna continue to lose in excruciating fashion.”

Starting slow: Junior Brendan Adams has started UConn’s last four games but hasn’t had a ton of production, averaging 6.5 points on 25-percent shooting. He has provided some decent defense at times, and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds on Saturday.

“We need Brendan to play with a little more offensive confidence, and just be rock-solid defensively and on the backboard,” said Hurley. “He’s got to try to deliver that for us.”

Sophomore slump?: Jalen Gaffney has had a hard time getting on track lately, averaging just 4 points and 13.3 minutes per game in the Huskies’ last three contests.

“Unless you start to see a 22-to-25 minutes next to his name, we’re gonna continue to have issues — particularly offensively,” Hurley said. “He’s a guy, on a team that doesn’t have a lot of playmakers on offense, that has some potential to make plays.”
