The early stages of Trump withdrawal

I miss Donald Trump.

Not all the crazy awful things he did, like separating migrant children from their parents, or calling the pandemic a “hoax” and ignoring it, or even, the silly comb-over.

What I miss is the excitement. Never knowing what he’s going to say next (loved those nicknames, which though cruel, fit, “Low-Energy Jeb” and “Crooked Hillary” and “Crying Chuck” and “Lying Ted”). Or watch the wind flip the combover so his bald spot showed.

But what I miss most is the never knowing what comes next. Biden is boring. Though I do enjoy now waking up in the morning without fear, I do miss Trump. I never thought I would say this but he was entertaining, funny, even fun to watch, at times. You never knew what was going to come out of that mouth.

I liked, too, the anticipation when he was about to speak. Was he going to tell us again how smart he was, how the economy had never been better, how the ratings were highest when he was on Fox?

I suppose he’s right the media is going to miss him. He was a story a minute. Now we’re stuck listening to Joe be decent and tedious. Bummer.

On a more serious level, I mourn for Trump, the child who never felt love in his life. Growing up with a father who would stand for nothing less than strength and winning in every circumstance, and a mother (it’s said) who was not around, it would be hard to become a well-rounded person.

Despite all his bloviating and bluster, you could see through to the person who never felt he was enough. I can relate to this. You puff yourself up to make the world believe there are no warts inside, but you know. I do see the hurt boy who wants to fit in but keeps making it so he can’t.

I can’t say I’m not glad Biden is now president, but I hope the media keeps tabs on Trump. Not every day, please, but enough to know what he’s doing, any new nicknames he comes up with, and that he’s enjoying Mar-a-Lago. Oh, and I do like getting a full night’s sleep.
