KEEP AN EYE ON

Title chase: UConn coach Geno Auriemma conceded he’s not sure how the Big East can crown a champion this season because of the imbalanced schedule due to COVID-19.

Nevertheless, the Huskies can clinch their 20th Big East regular season title, and first since 2010-11, with a victory over Creighton, or if Marquette loses to DePaul the day before.

“That’s always the first order of business,” Auriemma said. “Whatever league you’re in, you want to win the regular season championship.”

Sharing the rock: UConn had 26 assists on 32 baskets in Saturday’s win over Xavier. The 81% assist rate was a season-best. Three players had at least five dimes, including seven by freshman Paige Bueckers.

“Paige has set a tone,” Auriemma said. “She’s not afraid to throw that Diana (Taurasi) pass that Dee used to throw … from foul line to foul line for a layup. Just like bad passing is infectious, so is good passing. Right now, we’re in a pretty good spot with that. A lot of people are getting into the act.”

Top honors: Creighton’s Emma Ronsiek was named Big East Freshman of the Week Monday for the second time this season. The 6-foot-1 forward scored a game-high 27 points in an 83-72 upset of then-No. 19 DePaul on Saturday.

Ronsiek is second on the Bluejays in scoring (11.6) and rebounding (4.6). History lesson: The Huskies are 2-0 all-time against Creighton, having defeated the Bluejays 96-60 in 2014 and 80-47 earlier this season on Dec. 17. Both those meetings were at Gampel Pavilion.
