GHS students honored with Scholastic Art Awards

GREENWICH — Eight Greenwich High School students have been selected in the Connecticu­t Scholastic Art Awards for their exceptiona­l work from multiple types of media, including photograph­y, ceramics and more. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the largest, longest running and most prestigiou­s recognitio­n program for creative young people in the United States.

“The Greenwich High School Art Department is very proud to recognize our eight Connecticu­t State Scholastic Art Award recipients, including one who went on to win a Gold Key on the National level. Our students won these awards competing against nearly 2,800 students from about 145 schools in Connecticu­t alone,” said Julie Nixon, arts teacher and arts program associate at Greenwich High.

Recipients of the Scholastic Art Awards were honored at a recent Board of Education meeting. The awards went to:

• Kylie Schneider: “The Drowning,” cyanotype, Gold Key and National Gold Award

• Alexandra Fenaroli: “Office Hours,” darkroom photograph­y, Silver Key

• Sophia Porigow: “Our Complexity of Reality,” art portfolio, Silver Key

• Matthew Stugart: “Thinking Spheres,” computer art, Silver Key

• Lillian Bjerke: “Belladonna,” drawing and illustrati­on, Honorable Mention

• Sarah Boside: “Breaking the Multiverse,” computer art, Honorable Mention

• Bailey Gordon: “Succulents,” ceramics, Honorable Mention

• Stella Santini: “Day of Love,” digital photograph­y, Honorable Mention

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers to identify students with exceptiona­l artistic and literary talent.
