Koepka returns for fifth time
Brooks Koepka will be competing in the Travelers Championship for the fifth time this coming June.
The four-time major champion is now ranked 11th in the world. Koepka had right knee surgery in mid-March for a dislocated kneecap. He returned for the Masters last week, but missed the cut.
TPC River Highlands in Cromwell will host the Travelers Championship June 24-27.
Koepka won back-toback U.S. Opens (2017 and 2018) and PGA Championships (2017 and 2018) on his rise to No. 1 in the world golf rankings. He spent 47 weeks in the top spot.
“Brooks has put together a remarkable list of accomplishments, with many of them coming in golf ’s biggest events,” Travelers Championship tournament director Nathan Grube said in a statement put out by the tournament Tuesday morning. “Brooks is a great player who keeps giving himself opportunities to win, and we’re thrilled that he’ll be returning to Connecticut in June.”
Koepka came to the 2019 Travelers at No. 1 in the world and a little more than a month removed from winning his second PGA at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York. His best finish at the Travelers was a tie for ninth place in 2016.
Koepka withdrew from last year’s Travelers the day before the tournament started out of caution when his caddie, Ricky Elliott, tested positive for CO
VID-19. Koepka was ranked fourth in the world at the time.
Koepka won the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February for his eighth PGA Tour victory, then tied for second at The WGCWorkday Championship three weeks later. Koepka is
currently 15th in the FedExCup standings.
