Fazio deserves apology from Greenwich DTC

- Patrick Sasser Stamford

I was shocked and disappointed after reading your April 26 article, “CT elections commission clears Fazio, State GOP of improper funding accusation” where a quote from the Democrat complainant caught my attention. Robert Brady, a member of the Democrat Town Committee, filed a complaint against Ryan Fazio without doing his own research or any fact-checking, which lead to the complaint being quickly dismissed by the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC). Mr. Brady, who — let’s be honest, obviously acted at the behest of others — shot from the hip on this one.

Instead of Mr. Brady and Greenwich Democrats apologizing for trying to drag Mr. Fazio’s and his campaign volunteer’s name through the mud, he admitted to the reporter, “As I learned in gunnery school, you take your ranging shots, you adjust your fire and you fire for effect. We haven’t gotten there yet. We’re still taking our ranging shots.”

So, is this the new play book of the Democrat Party? Just take reckless personal shots and hope for plenty of collateral damage? File complaints and feed it to the media so they run a story with big front page headlines to tarnish your opposition? File complaints for the “effects” and waste everyone’s time, including the SEEC’s?

Given his cavalier comments, the nature of the complaint, and the fact that it is the third SEEC complaint by a Greenwich DTC member against local Republicans in 18 months, Mr. Brady should tell us who he worked with on this accusation. Either way, an apology from him and the DTC is warranted. I hope voters are watching and reject the attempt to intimidate the local volunteers and candidates for office with ugly tactics.
