Sally Hughes Terlizzi

-

Sally Hughes Terlizzi of Brewster, NY passed away on September 6, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.

Sally was born on August 19, 1955, in Greenwich, CT to parents John Hughes and Helen Crothers during Hurricane Diane.

Sally is survived by her loving husband, Michael, her adoring son, Anthony of Westport, CT, her sister Margaret Applegate (Richard) of Greenwich, CT, her sister Laurie Hughes Ostrow of Weston, CT, and sister Mary Jane Guiffredo (Bill) of Naugatuck, CT. Her sister Rita King of Greenwich, CT passed away in February of this year. She is survived by 6 nieces & nephews and their children.

Sally began her career taking care of sick children at Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, NY. She worked there for over a decade and then began her own private nursing service when her son Anthony was born. She then went to take care of a child with Osteogenesis imperfecta, which is brittle bone disease. She took care of this child for nearly a decade and her special care and gentle touch allowed this child to live much longer than expected. Sally finished her career at Arms Acres, a drug & alcohol rehab facility in Carmel, NY. Sally retired in February of 2020 and got sick in the following month.

Sally was one of the most selfless people on the planet, always taking care of people and always placing their needs over her own.

She loved her family more than anything in the world. Her love for her husband was unmatched, it was the definition of true love. She loved her son Anthony more than anything in the world, and often told her friends and family how proud she was of him. She had several lifelong friends, who she cared for dearly and had a loving relationship for over 50 years. She had a love for music, the outdoors, was an avid reader, and was a tremendous wordsmith. She also loved to travel, and her favorite destination was Ireland, where she made lifelong friends, who she considered family.

The family would like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Robert Kloss and his staff for their compassionate care of Sally over the past year.

Visitation will be held between 4 - 8pm on Monday, Sep 13 at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, NY. Funeral Mass will be 10am Tuesday, Sep 14 at St. Lawrence O’ Toole Church in Brewster, NY.

In lieu of flowers, send donations to Regional Hospice and Palliative Care of Danbury.
