PITNEY BOWES AWARDED $79M FEDERAL CONTRACT
STAMFORD — Shipping and mailing provider Pitney Bowes has been awarded a $79 million federal contract, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes announced Wednesday.
The five-year contract from the U.S. General Services Administration involves mailing equipment, supplies and mailing services from the Stamford-headquartered company, according to Himes.
“Pitney Bowes is an important member of our community, providing good-paying jobs and making our neighborhoods better through their foundation,” Himes said in a statement. “It’s always a good thing when we are able to bring federal dollars home to Connecticut where they’ll make their way into the pockets of our working families. I’ll keep working to make sure our families, neighborhoods and businesses are getting their fair share.”
Officials at Pitney said that they appreciated the advocacy of Himes, a seven-term Democrat whose district covers most of Fairfield County, on behalf of Connecticut businesses.
“Pitney Bowes is proud to serve the U.S government with our solutions which help simplify shipping and mailing and save money,” Daniel Goldstein, Pitney’s executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary, said in a statement.
Ranking as the No. 664 company on this year’s Fortune 1,000 list, Pitney has turned in robust financial results since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic — helped by a government designation as an “essential business” that allowed it to keep operating during the first wave of the pandemic.
In the second quarter of this year, the company’s revenues totaled about $899 million, up 7 percent from the same period in 2020.
Pitney employs more than 11,000, including more than 1,000 in Connecticut. Its contingent in its home state includes about 700 who work across several units in Shelton; about 200 based at its main offices at 3001 Summer St., in Stamford; and nearly 200 in Hartford who work for its Presort business, according to company data provided earlier this year.
