Tax Collector Smeriglio’s welcome return to ballot
Heather Smeriglio, our incumbent, fully certified tax collector is running again! We, the citizens of Greenwich, are so fortunate she is seeking another term in office. There will be not one second of down time when she starts her new term beginning in January 2022.
Heather’s professional background includes working as a branch manager and then becoming vice president of one of our local banks. Upon her employment six years ago, in the tax collector’s office, she immediately began taking courses that would make her a Certified Municipal Tax Collector by the State of Connecticut.
Heather continuously meets the state requirements for re-certification by taking the necessary courses. In addition, she attends the North East State Tax Collector Conventions to stay current of new procedures and processes regarding tax collection. These efforts provide opportunities to maintain and enhance her knowledge.
Heather successfully altered the dynamic of foreclosures in a very humane and compassionate way. Smeriglio was able to reduce delinquent taxes with no tax sales. She collected $2.1 million of back taxes in one month. She employed a very caring approach to several people unable to pay their taxes and continues to work with them in order to help them meet their financial responsibilities. At this time, her office has collected 99.09 percent of the taxes due the town.
A third generation native of Greenwich, Heather has chosen to serve our town in this capacity. She loves Greenwich. Please join me by voting for her and return her to office on Nov. 2! Clearly, “Heather is a truly a tax collector who cares.”
