Looking ahead

Sacred Heart women (2-5, 0-2 NEWHA) vs. Post (2-2, 2-0), The Rinks at Shelton, Friday, 4 p.m., Saturday, 8:30 p.m.: Friday’s a Post home game and Saturday’s is the Pioneers’. The teams met on Oct. 8 in a non-league game, a 5-1 Sacred Heart victory.

Niagara men (0-4) at Sacred Heart (2-3), Webster Bank Arena, Friday, 5:30 p.m., Saturday, 1 p.m.:

The Pioneers begin their home schedule, their final full season at the arena in Bridgeport before their own on-campus facility opens in January 2023. This weekend also opens the conference slate for both teams.

No. 8/7 Quinnipiac women (6-0-2) at Brown (0-1-1), Friday, 6 p.m.:

After a week off, the Bobcats open their ECAC campaign up in Rhode Island. Brown got one out of four points against Penn State last weekend.

Yale women (2-0) vs. Princeton, Ingalls Rink, Friday, 6 p.m.:

The Bulldogs open their ECAC campaign against the Tigers, who are playing their first game of the season.

No. 5 Quinnipiac men (4-1-1) vs. AIC (1-4): Friday, 7 p.m, at MassMutual Center, Springfiel­d, Mass.; Saturday, 7 p.m., at Perrotti Arena: Coming off some high-emotion games and with Yale coming up next weekend, the Bobcats can’t let down against a team that has been the class of Atlantic Hockey the past few years.

No. 8/7 Quinnipiac women at Yale, Ingalls Rink, Saturday, 3 p.m.:

The rivals meet for the first time since Feb. 21, 2020, a 4-1 Yale win at Quinnipiac. The all-time series has been streaky, and that win ended a four-game Bobcats unbeaten run.

Yale men at Brown, Saturday, 7 p.m.:

Well, finally. The last of the locals to return from the forced pandemic break, the Bulldogs will play their first game since March 8, 2020. It’s also the opener for the Bears, featuring defenseman Luke Krys of Ridgefield.

UConn men (3-3) at Dartmouth, Saturday, 8 p.m.:

One more out-of-conference game for the Huskies before three straight Hockey East weekends. Dartmouth opens

Friday at home vs Harvard.

UConn women (7-0, 3-0 HEA) vs. Merrimack (0-8-1, 0-4-1), Freitas Ice Forum, Friday, 6 p.m.: If it seems as if the Huskies only play Merrimack, they have, for three weekends in a row.

UConn women vs. Vermont (4-2, 2-0 HEA, pending Friday at Boston University), Freitas Ice Forum, Saturday, 4 p.m.: Not Merrimack? That season series is over. This one is just beginning: UConn visits UVM in January to start the second half.

Looking back

Sophomore Nick Capone of East Haven scored two goals and added an assist in the UConn men’s 5-3 Hockey East win over No. 20 Northeaste­rn. Senior Marc Gatcomb and sophomore Ryan Tverberg had two points apiece.

Quinnipiac’s men split with North Dakota in their top-10 showdown in Hamden, winning 5-2 but falling the next night 3-1. The Bobcats came back Tuesday and beat Holy Cross 5-2. Graduate student Oliver Chau had two assists, and fellow gradtransf­er Dylan St. Cyr made 19 saves in the win over the Crusaders.

The Yale women opened their season with an 8-0 win over St. Anselm and a 7-0 win over Sacred Heart. Senior Gianna Meloni and freshman Pia Dukaric each had a shutout. Junior Claire Dalton finished the weekend with six points to lead the team. Rebecca Vanstone scored twice against St. Anselm.

Grad student Summer-Rae Dobson scored the game-winner on a breakaway with 3:58 to play as the UConn women beat Merrimack 3-2. Senior Samantha Carpentier-Yelle made 22 saves . ... The Sacred Heart men took three out of four points at Maine. Senior Adam Tisdale scored the only goal 8:29 into a 1-0 Pioneers win. The teams tied at 3 the next night; three different Pioneers scored . ... Franklin Pierce beat the Post women 7-0. Sophomore Lexi Levy made 53 saves in defeat.

Awarded

Sacred Heart freshman goalie Carly Greene made 32 of 36 saves in relief in the Pioneers’ 7-0 loss to Yale and was named NEWHA women’s rookie of the week . ... Junior goalie Justin Robbins made 58 of 61 saves for Sacred Heart, shutting out Maine 1-0 and helping tie the Black Bears 3-3 a day later, and was Atlantic Hockey’s goalie of the week.
