Carl Eric “Pete” Peterson passed away peacefully at his home in West Brookfield, MA on Thursday November 4, 2021, with his wife Catherine “Kitty” Butler Peterson by his side. Carl was predecease­d by his parents, Warner and Ina Dahl Peterson who immigrated to the United States from Sweden and settled in Greenwich.

Carl, born and raised in Greenwich, lived the majority of his life there with his family before moving to Trumbull and eventually moving to West Brookfield in 2018

Carl graduated from Greenwich High School in 1945 and owned several small auto related businesses in town until he opened Peterson’s in Cos Cob which he later renamed Post Road Auto Body. Later in life he switched to teaching Auto Body as an instructor for B.O.C.E.S in Valhalla, New York.

He served in the merchant marines and was drafted into service for the Korean War. He proudly served as a member of the Army Military Police and was proud

Veteran.

He is survived by his loving wife Kitty and his three daughters. Cynthia Smith and her husband David of Ansonia, Cathi Peterson and her partner Sandy Binion of West Brookfield, Caryn Jack and her husband Andrew and their two children, Ailín and Annika of West Brookfield.

A funeral service will be held for him on Saturday November 20, 2021, at Fred D. Knapp and Sons Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT

The family will receive friends and family from 11:30 am – 12:30 p.m. followed directly by the funeral procession to his final resting place at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, 399 North Street, Greenwich.

Carl an avid athlete from his school days continued playing ice hockey well into his 80’s. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the USA Hockey Foundation.
