Library hosts ‘Seasons Readings’ for a night of theater

- By Karen Tensa

GREENWICH — Kick off the holiday season with “A Night Out With Friends at the Theater,” an entertaining, comic evening of live dramatic readings in the Greenwich Library’s redesigned Berkley Theater.

Professional actors from JIB Productions will share their holiday show “Seasons Readings,” starting at 7 p.m. Dec. 2.

The stage production is offered for free, thanks to the contributions of the nonprofit Friends of Greenwich Library.

A talk-back and Q&A session with JIB Productions artistic director Carole Schweid and the professional cast of actors will immediately follow the performance.

The evening will consist of short stories and one-act plays in the spirit of the holiday season. The program includes playwright Matt Hoverman’s comedic “Going Home,” the story of two newlyweds trying to make the most of their first Christmas alone together in their small apartment.

Other stories include “The Curmudgeon” by Minnesota writer and National Book Award winner Pete Hautman, a memory play that brings together a motley crew of grown children to spend the holidays with their father; “The Tailor of Gloucester” by famed author Beatrix Potter; and “A Christmas Ballad for the Captain” by William Lederer.

“The Friends of Greenwich Library are thrilled to welcome JIB Productions to Greenwich Library for the first time in-person after their two successful virtual events with us last year,” said Hilary Martin Lea, chair of the Friends of Greenwich Library. “JIB Productions is one of the premier performing companies in Fairfield County and their literary programs are always thought-provoking and meaningful.”

JIB Productions Inc., founded in 2003, is a notfor-profit producer of professional performing and visual arts programs in and around Fairfield County.

Doors to the Berkley Theater will open at 6:30 p.m. All attendees will be required to show proof of full vaccination (in the form of a CDC vaccination card or a photo or photocopy of the card) or a negative PCR Test taken within 72 hours of the event.

No one will be admitted without this documentation. All attendees will be required to wear a mask throughout the performance. Capacity is set at 100 percent for adult programs in the theater.

Registration is required at the library’s online calendar at greenwichlibrary.org. For more information, visit the website call 203-6227900.
