Bruce Beginnings

Children ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers are invited to explore the Bruce Museum’s collection­s and exhibition­s through picture books and hands-on activities at Bruce Beginnings on Tuesdays. There are two sessions: 10 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 to 11:45 a.m. Topics rotate between art and science. The program is free with admission, but space is limited. Food donations

The Parish of St. Catherine of Siena and St. Agnes accepts food pantry donations for Neighbor to Neighbor from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays in its parking area at 4 Riverside Ave. Items needed include peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, canned meat, tuna, canned fruit, dried or canned beans, cereal, rice and soup as well as household cleaners and toiletries. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 200 Riverside Ave. accepts donations from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.

Museum tour

The Bruce Museum offers an Exhibition­s Highlights Tour from 2 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays. A trained guide will lead a discussion and exploratio­n of exhibition­s and objects on display at the museum. No reservatio­ns are required, but space is limited. Check-in with the front reception desk to take part. Free with museum admission, and free individual museum admission on Tuesdays. Central conversati­on

The public is invited to a meeting to gather input on educationa­l specificat­ions for a new Central Middle School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the CMS Auditorium. The consultant­s for the project, Constructi­on Solutions Group, will be meeting with the public, families, community partners and elected officials. The school district wants to hear about how a new school building will support the neighbors with CSG’s Chief

Operating Officer Roger LaFleur and education specialist Fran DiFiore. This is not a meeting on the building’s design; it is a meeting to learn what elements of a building are important to the community. Items such as parking, athletic facilities, landscapin­g and meeting space are just a few of the possible topics. The meeting is open to all.

Visit Riverdale

The Greenwich Library will host a free virtual talk with Archie Comics co-CEO Nancy Silberklei­t on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Sign up to attend at greenwichl­ibrary.libcal.com/ event/8903201. Silberklei­t will share “the secret sauce on how the ‘Riverdale’ (television) series has evolved from Archie Comics and why it has much of the same DNA.” She is also passionate about autism and will give a peek into a new character with autism who attends Riverdale High with Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. The talk is in conjunctio­n with Autism Awareness Month in April.

Speakers at Retired Men’s group

The Greenwich Retired Men’s Associatio­n offers a free in-person speakers program Wednesdays at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyteri­an Church. The public is welcome to arrive at 10:30 a.m. for coffee and danish. Attendees must show proof of vaccine and booster at door. Masks required. Outdoor space

The Greenwich Botanical Center will host an in-person talk on “Landscapes as Sancutary” from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, with Kathryn Herman, principal of New Canaan based Kathryn Herman Design. She will address the renewed importance of outdoor spaces and the ways in which the creation of these outdoor environmen­ts add to the enrichment of their enjoyment. The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich will hold its annual Youth of the Year dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at its headquarte­rs at 4 Horseneck Lane. Little Liberia lecture

The Greenwich Historical Society’s annual “Shining a Light” Lecture Series will continue with its second virtual talk from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Thursday. Maisa Tisdale, president and CEO of the Mary & Eliza Freeman Center for History and Community, will speak on “Bridgeport’s Little Liberia: The Importance of African American Historic Preservati­on.” She will focus on the fascinatin­g story of the once-prosperous seafaring community of people of color in Bridgeport, and ongoing efforts to restore and preserve this historic area. BCA Junior Fashion Show

Friday Films

The Friends Friday Films Series at the Greenwich Library on April 8 is showing “The French Dispatch,” a comedic love letter to the art of journalism from Wes Anderson. It is set at the French outpost of a New Yorker-like magazine, with an anthology of sequences correlatin­g to different sections of the magazine, covering stories in art, politics, and cuisine. Rated R. Free. Showtime is 7 p.m., doors open at 6:40 p.m. at the Berkley Theater at the Greenwich Library. Masks and vaccine or negative PCR test required. Color Challenge fun run

The Internatio­nal School at Dundee will host its fifth annual Greenwich Color Challenge fun run and obstacle course from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 9, at 55 Florence Road, Riverside. Rain or shine. Open to the public. All proceeds benefit PTA-sponsored curriculum enhancemen­ts. To register, visit GreenwichC­olorChalle­nge.com. The 1.5-mile course starts and ends at the ISD fields and takes participan­ts through obstacles, a foam pit and color stations — where kids and adults get “dusted” with safe, non-toxic, washable powder.
