GREENWICH — Warehousing specialist GXO Logistics, which was spun off last year from XPO Logistics, announced Monday that it expects to add more than 3,000 positions during the next two years in France, to meet demand for its e-commerce services.

The new hires would complement Greenwichheadquartered GXO’s current team of more than 8,000 employees working across nearly 80 locations in France. The company said it is expanding its teams following new business growth and contract renewals with “major e-commerce retailers” and that it is also planning to launch new logistics platforms during the next two years in France.

“We are looking forward to welcoming new members to our teams and integrating them into our operations and our culture of safety, diversity and inclusion,” GXO France Managing Director Bernard Wehbe said in a statement. “When we hire at GXO, we don’t just create jobs; we create careers. We are looking for talented professionals who share our values, our excitement in using innovative technologies and who will support our growth while developing their own careers.”

GXO said it had begun recruiting for logistics agents, materials handlers, maintenance technicians and inventory managers. The company said it would also recruit for other positions, including managerial functions such as team leaders and operation managers, process and flow engineers and project managers.

Describing itself as “the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider,” GXO operates with about 120,000 workers across 900 warehouse locations totaling 200 million square feet. In statements summarizing its operations, it said works with “the world’s leading blue-chip customers to solve complex logistics challenges with technologically advanced supply chain solutions, at scale and with speed.”

GXO has also been hiring in large numbers in North America. Last November, it announced plans to hire more than 9,000 employees across the U.S., and Canada ahead of the holiday shopping season.

The company employs more than 20,000 people in the U.S., including more than 300 in Connecticut. Its headquarters are at 2 American Lane in northwest Greenwich. It also has facilities in North Haven and Windsor.

GXO has more than 4,000 job openings in the U.S., including about two-dozen opportunities in Connecticut.

In its announcement Monday, GXO also said it is “investing heavily in technology and automation, including collaborative robots, or “cobots,” and other innovations that allow employees to work safely, be more productive and enjoy a more satisfying overall work experience.”

For 2021, GXO produced revenues of nearly $8 billion, up 28 percent from 2020.

Last August, GXO completed its spin-off from Greenwich-based XPO, with the latter operating as one of the world’s largest transporters of commercial goods and ranking as the No. 190 company on this year’s Fortune 500 list. Last month, XPO announced that it would spin off its truck-brokerage into its own publicly traded company.
