DEEP: Trout parks across CT to be stocked Saturday

- By Tara O’Neill

Trout will be stocked at more than a dozen trout parks across Connecticut on Saturday in celebration of the state's Spring Fishing Day.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on Wednesday urged residents to celebrate Spring Fishing Day by getting out to fish or by joining the Fisheries Division at fish stocking events happening statewide.

While the second Saturday in April has traditionally marked the start of trout fishing season in Connecticut, it is now open year-round.

DEEP has been stocking the state's river, streams, lakes and ponds since midFebruary. The agency said over 477,000 trout were expected to be released this spring into nearly 100 lakes and ponds, along with 130 rivers and streams across the state.

There will be 13 stocking events throughout the state on Saturday.

Anglers ages 16 and older must purchase a trout and salmon stamp to fish in any designated trout management area, wild trout management area, trout park or Atlantic salmon brookstock area. There are several exemptions from the requirement.

If fishing from a kayak, canoe or any other type of boating device, DEEP reminded anglers to wear a personal flotation device.
