Hospital earns Women’s Choice Awards

The Women’s Choice Awards has named Greenwich Hospital as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience and Cancer Care in 2022.

By carrying the Women’s Choice Award, Greenwich Hospital is part of an elite national network of health care facilities committed to providing the highest level of care and empowering individual­s to make informed health care choices. The two top Women’s Choice Awards are among several presented to Greenwich Hospital.

“We’re so proud that this award recognizes the excellent care provided by our staff based on the opinions of the satisfied patients in our community,” said Diane Kelly, president of Greenwich Hospital. “This is a testament to our ongoing commitment to provide an exceptiona­l patient experience each and every time.”

The Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Greenwich is accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a comprehens­ive community cancer program, offering advanced diagnostic, treatment, rehabilita­tion and survivorsh­ip services.

The Patient Experience Award is presented to organizati­ons whose patients said they “would definitely recommend” the hospital when completing the federal Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey.

Locals make Dean’s List at James Madison

James Madison University in Harrisonbu­rg, Va., announced that two local students made the Dean’s List for the fall 2021 semester for earning a GPA of between 3.5 and 3.899.

The honored students are Katherine Walko, of Cos Cob, who is majoring in kinesiolog­y, and Elizabeth Stahl, of Greenwich, who is majoring in psychology.

SUNY Oneonta honors local student

Thomas Julian Nonkovic, of Greenwich, was one of 1,411 students at State University of New York College at Oneonta, N.Y., who earned Dean’s List honors for the fall 2021 semester. Nonkovic is studying music industry.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

In addition, Nonkovic and fellow students from SUNY Oneonta met online with alum Katie O’Gara, a member of the Class of 2018 who is a publicity assistant at Island Records, for the college’s Mixing Board to Management alumni networking event during the fall semester.

The Mixing Board to Management event is designed to inspire students to jump-start their careers by building their profession­al networks. It is funded by the SUNY Oneonta Alumni Associatio­n through charitable gifts to the Fund for Oneonta.

Local students honored at Miami University

Five local students have been named to the Dean’s List at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, for the fall semester after they were ranked in the Top 20 percent of undergradu­ate students.

The honored students are Carly Badini, of Old Greenwich, who is studying nursing; J.R. Coster, of Greenwich, who is studying university studies; Izzy Jankovich-Besan, of Old Greenwich, who is studying anthropolo­gy; Thomas Jedlicka, of Greenwich, who is studying business economics; and Jack Plaster, of Cos Cob, who is studying finance.

Local students earn honors at UNH

The following local students have been named to the Dean’s List at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H., for the fall 2021 semester.

Harley Guerrieri, of Old Greenwich, earned highest honors for a semester grade point average of 3.85 or higher out of 4.0.

Jessica Marzullo, of Old Greenwich, Giovanni Pastore, of Cos Cob, and Phoebe Myers and Ryan Carbino, both of Greenwich, earned high honors for receiving a GPA of 3.65 to 3.84.

Jaclyn Hartog, of Greenwich and Madeline Brooks, of Old Greenwich, earned honors for achieving a GPA of 3.5 through 3.64.

Mercersbur­g honors Greenwich student

Maia Somma, of Greenwich, who is in 10th grade, was named a distinguis­hed scholar during the winter term at Mercersbur­g Academy in Mercersbur­g, Pa.

Somma earned the honor of distinguis­hed scholar for posting all her grades at 90 or above.
