Playing bridge

Speaker at men’s group
The Greenwich Retired Men’s Association offers a free speakers program at 11 a.m. Wednesdays. Sound performance
The Flinn Gallery on the second floor of the Greenwich Library will host a Sound performance with Akinori Matsumoto and Michael Pestel from 6 to 7 p.m. May 18. Tavern Garden Market
The Tavern Garden Market will return to the Greenwich Historical Society at 47 Strickland Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18. It will feature locally sourced farm-totable organic produce, farm-fresh eggs, baked goods, flowers, gifts, fashion accessories, vintage jewelry, crafts and environmentally sourced beauty products. The market will be held on alternating Wednesdays through Nov. 2.
One-act plays
A new season of Play With Your Food continues May 19 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Greenwich Arts Council, 299 Greenwich Ave. The one-act plays will be followed by a talk-back with the professional cast of actors and the director. A boxed lunch catered by popular local restaurants is included in the $60 ticket and can be enjoyed there or taken to go. Proof of vaccination and masks are mandatory for all performances. The Byram Shubert Library will host an Outdoor Jazz Concert with the Peter Hand 16 Piece Band from 7 to 8 p.m. May 19. With three Big Band albums from HighNote/Savant Records, guitarist Peter Hand brings his band for a concert featuring Hand’s original compositions and new arrangements of jazz and popular standards.
Rock photos
C. Parker Gallery at 409 Greenwich Ave. will display “The Rock Photographer of James Fortune,” featuring the photos of the iconic rock and roll photographer of the ‘60s and ‘70s, from May 19 to May 29, with the works for sale. Fortune photographed such artists as Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Elton John, Paul McCartney & Wings, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffett, Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, and more. High school musical
The Greenwich High School’s Theater Arts Department presents “Into the Woods” in the Performing Arts Center from May 19 through May 21, at 7 p.m. each night. Friday Films
The Friends Friday Films Series at the Greenwich Library on May 20 is showing “Mildred Pierce.” Joan Crawford gives an iconic performance in this film noir of motherhood, mystery and murder. The Oscar-winning film mixes humor with melodrama in this film classic. Free. Showtime is 7 p.m., doors open at 6:40 at the Berkley Theater. Masks and vaccine or negative PCR test required. Byram Park Cleanup Day
The Friends of Byram Park will host its annual Byram Park Cleanup Day to get the area ready for summer. It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 21, rain or shine. RSVP to
www.friendsofbyrampark.org. Volunteers should meet at the beach entrance. Garden tools will be provided. The Byram Shore Boat Club will host a barbecue for the volunteers following Cleanup Day.
Fish migration
The Mianus River Fishway will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. May 21, just one of the hundreds of events celebrating World Fish Migration Day across the world. Access to the fishway is provided from the parking lot at the Greenwich Adult Day Center, 125 River Road Ext., Cos Cob. The fishway, which was constructed in 1993, allows diadromous fishes such as alewives and blueback herring to gain access to important spawning and nursery habitat in the Mianus River. During the open house, participants will be given a tour of the fishway and learn about its history, the natural history of the fish that use it and how it is operated. Everyone is invited to attend. Library celebration

Crafts Festival
The Bruce Museum will host its 37th annual Outdoor Crafts Festival on May 21 and May 22. This outdoor event, which will be held on the grounds of the Bruce at 1 Museum Drive, will feature fine contemporary handmade crafts in jewelry, wearable and decorative fiber, glass, furniture and housewares, pottery, and more, all available for purchase. Touch A Truck
The Junior League of Greenwich will hold its Touch A Truck on May 22 at Greenwich Town Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. VIP early access available at 10:30 a.m., with reduced sensory experience offered from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The event will feature
trucks from the Department of Public Works, the fire department, the police department and ambulance service. There will also be construction equipment, kids’ activities and food trucks. The fundraiser for the JLG draws more than 3,000 attendees, who are encouraged to help “Stuff A Truck” with nonperishable food items for Neighbor to Neighbor. The Greenwich International Film Festival will host its Changemaker Gala on May 25, honoring actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, who created the hit musical “Hamilton,” for using his voice for positive social change with his work for The Miranda Family Fund at the Hispanic Federation. Art show
The Art Society of Old Greenwich is holding its Members Spring Exhibit and Art Sale at the Greenwich Botanical Center in Cos Cob through May 26. Dozens of pieces across a variety of mediums are displayed and for sale in the Botanical Center’s auditorium.
Greenwich Town Party
Music lovers will be in a “Greenwich state of mind” as the legendary Billy Joel takes the stage as the headliner at the annual Greenwich Town Party. It will return to its usual Memorial Day weekend date this year, set for May 28 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park. The GTP is often the hottest ticket in town, with sales limited to Greenwich residents as well as people who work in Greenwich. Community tickets to the show are sold out. Memorial Day parade
The annual Memorial Day Parade brought to you by the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department will take place Monday, May 30 beginning at 10 a.m. Due to safety concerns, no candy will be thrown out to the children along the parade route. As per state law, anyone 15 or younger on bikes must wear a helmet or may be asked to not participate. Due to the Sound Beach Avenue closure, parking will be limited and there may be traffic delays. Plan accordingly.
Road race
The 58th running of the Jim Fixx Memorial Day Race will step off on May 30 in Greenwich, with the 5K race at 8:15 a.m. All checkin and number pickups will be at the Greenwich Senior Center, 299 Greenwich Ave., on May 28 and starting at 7 a.m. race day. The revised 5K course runs through streets in central Greenwich, including Bruce Park, and finishes on the track by the Havemeyer Field behind Greenwich Town Hall. Art to The Avenue
