The Perfect Pool Patio
Greenwich luxury homes are poised for making a big summertime splash
As temperatures plunge this week across the region, spring may seem impossibly distant. But the calendar will turn quickly, and soon it will be time to reclaim our outdoor living spaces and get pools prepped for summer fun.
What makes for a safe and special pool environment? It starts with the pool and pool patio design, including surrounding the pool with a level surface, free of impediments. Add to it space for lounge chairs and closeat-hand dining furnishings. Consider umbrellas or foliage for shady refuge, and landscaping that lends privacy and natural beauty to the setting.
This week, Greenwich Time takes readers to three homes on the market with lovely pool settings. The first is 8 Hillside Drive, a fully renovated six-bedroom 8,100-square-foot main house, complemented by carriage house and pool house. The property is listed for $5.95 million by Barbara Wells, a Realtor with Houlihan Lawrence’s Greenwich brokerage.
“8 Hillside Drive, in the private Rock Ridge Association near downtown Greenwich, boasts a stunning, heated in-ground pool,” Wells said. “The pool area is in a private location on the property. It is the perfect spot for private swimming, luncheons and evening parties. It is surrounded by a stone wall, with trees on the outside for total privacy.
“There is a large terrace around the pool for sunbathing, just relaxing or gatherings,” the listing agent added. “A covered pool house, with a bath, kitchenette, wet bar and a counter for stools is the perfect place for serving drinks and food. There are two small waterfall koi ponds for fish that flank the pool house. It’s the perfect place to entertain guests and enjoy those beautiful summer days with the family.” There is an inviting pool at 25 Stoney Wylde Lane in mid-country Greenwich. The 2.01-acre property features a five-bedroom contemporary-inspired stone-and-shingle home, with garaging for three, meticulously maintained gardens, a koi pond, and the heated pool and spa. Ellen Mosher and Beba Errichetti, Realtors with Houlihan Lawrence, are the listing agents for the luxury home, offered to the market for $4.4 million.
The 6,352-square-foot home features a dramatic white-marbled entryway, generously proportioned rooms, high ceilings, a must-see solarium by Renaissance Conservatory, and desirable amenities, including a wine cellar, home gym and sauna, home theater, and a walk-out game room with a bar. The pool terrace is particularly expansive, easily accommodating seating and dining furnishings, and surrounded by lush landscaping for color and texture. Realtor Evangela Brock, with Douglas Elliman Real Estate, is the seller’s agent for 241 Bedford Rd., Greenwich—a four-structure compound that includes a beautifully renovated antique 1835-era main house; a one-bedroom guest house, carriage house and antique barn. The property also affords the buyer a gorgeous, glistening pool.
“This is the ultimate in a pool setting, with a private, luxurious glass-beaded pool, spa and pergola,” Brock suggested. “It’s surrounded by nature and meadows. It’s both a perfect place for a quiet day of relaxation or entertaining by the pool, which is even large enough to do laps. “It’s quite special—a pool and setting that dreams are made of,” she concluded. The asking price for 241 Bedford Road is $5.495 million.
