Donald G. Wiesen
Donald Guy Wiesen died in peace and with grace at home in Greenwich, CT on Nov. 5, 2023 surrounded by family. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia Elfers Wiesen. Don is survived by his five daughters, Mara Wiesen, Caitlin Wiesen ( Jacques Antin), Elizabeth Wiesen (Skip Delano), Anne Wiesen ( John Seitz), and Megan Dowley (Mark Dowley), and six grandchildren, Helen and Margot Clifford, Charlotte, Kieran and Katharine Dowley, and Xuan Seitz. He is predeceased by his grandson, Jean-Luc Antin, and his son-in-law, Justin Clifford. Donald is also survived by the love of his later years, Claire Furlin. Born July 4, 1928, Don graduated from Columbia University where he was the stroke on Columbia's All-Ivy Varsity Heavyweight Eight Crew, a team that competed in the United States Olympic Trials in 1948. Upon graduation, Don served as Captain in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. After earning his CPA, Don spent 30 years with Chesebrough-Pond's Inc, moving with his family to Geneva, Switzerland (1965-1970) as the company expanded its multinational operations. He retired as Vice Chair and Chief Financial Officer in 1986. While Don will be remembered for his business acumen, integrity, and success, what mattered to him most was his service to others. Early in the AIDS crisis, he and his wife Patricia brought the Catholic Eucharist
weekly to AIDS patients in NYC and Stamford, CT. Joining the order of Malta, Don and Patricia became the first co-hospitallers of the Order in CT. Together they established school tutoring programs for the Dioceses of Bridgeport and a Eucharistic Ministry to hospitals in CT. Don made 22 pilgrimages to Lourdes assisting the sick. He was a beautiful pianist and a graceful dance partner. The consummate gentleman, he treated everyone with equal humility and respect. His innate modesty belied a keen wit and exceptional intellect. He read widely, thought deeply, and spoke eloquently. Whether exploring the night sky or the nature of spirituality, Don always looked to the heavens. His deep faith and fully present compassion touched the hearts of all who met him. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich, CT.
