Musician at library
Children's musician Tom Weber will bring his guitar and fun tunes on Saturday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the Greenwich Library's Marx Family Black Box Theater. Weber's performances are filled with interactive movement, props, singing, dancing, and lots of energy. His repertoire includes original songs as well as traditional favorites. Tom's music is intended to get children moving, singing, feeling confident, and having fun. Registration is not required. Fazio to speak at RMA meeting
The Retired Men's Association of Greenwich will host state Sen. Ryan Fazio at its meeting 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 1 West Putnam Ave., Greenwich. The program will also be shown on webinar: https:// bit.ly/30IBj21.
The topic of Fazio's talk will be “Will the Lights Go Out in New England? The Future of the Electric Grid – And Your Electric Bill.”
Fazio, the ranking senator on the legislature's Energy Committee, will explain the risks and possible solutions to keep the lights on and make energy costs more affordable. Fazio was elected in August 2021 and re-elected in 2022. He represents the 36th District, which includes Greenwich, Stamford, and New Canaan.

Talk on brain surgery
Greenwich Hospital's Dr. Marc Otten, neurosurgeon, will present “Brain Surgery and Beyond: Optimizing Outcomes” from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday via Zoom. Church hosts talk on aging
On the second Wednesday of every month, Round Hill Community Church hosts an informal conversation about different aspects of aging well. This Wednesday at 11 a.m. Lise Jameson, from At Home in Greenwich, will be the special guest. She will join the Rev. Shannon White, pastor of spiritual development at RHCC, to discuss how older adults can live independently in their preferred environment, safely and with confidence. Following the discussion, there will be a special holiday luncheon. This event is free and open to all.

Wreaths Across America in Greenwich
The Israel Putnam House Association, and the Putnam Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution are hosting the annual local Wreaths Across America tradition honoring American's fallen hero veterans. The ceremony will be held in local communities across America to pay tribute to our veterans who made the supreme sacrifice to protect our freedoms. This year, it will locally be held on Saturday, at noon at Christ Church Cemetery, 254 East Putnam Ave., Greenwich. Separate wreaths will be presented honoring the fallen from each branch of the military.
‘Selected Shorts’ at library
The Friends of Greenwich Library are pleased to kick off the festive season with a selection of scripted stories entitled “Holiday Tales,” presented by “Selected Shorts.” The event will be held in the Library's Berkley Theater on Tuesday at 7 p.m. With short fiction by Ann Beattie, Simon Rich, and Jeanette Winterson, actors Michel Gill, “The Dropout,” Joanna Gleason,“The Bite,” and Sonia Manzano “Sesame Street perform stories about seasonal gatherings with family and friends. After the show, the actors will participate in a 15-minute audience Q&A.
Founded in 1985, “Selected Shorts” was conceived with a simple premise: take great stories by well-known and emerging writers and have them performed by terrific actors of stage and screen. Numerous Broadway and big- and small-screen actors read pieces of new and classic short fiction before a live audience, and these readings are the basis for an hour-long public radio program and podcast, produced in conjunction with WNYC and distributed nationwide.
This program is presented by the Friends of Greenwich Library and made possible by charitable contributions from our community. It is free of charge and open to all. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required.
‘Tom Lake’ discussed at library

Violinist at library
Violinist Chie Yoshinaka will play her popular Petite Concert on Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Greenwich Library's Marx Family Black Box Theater. Aimed at newborns through preschoolers, this 30-minute concert is a charming introduction to live classical music for our youngest patrons. Registration is not required. Reception at Art Society
The Greenwich Art Society is continuing its collaboration with the Burton-Young Health and Beauty Center by exhibiting large artwork by current members. The current exhibition is by board member Ellen Gordon. The artwork will be on display until Feb. 20. Burton Young will host a reception to celebrate the artist on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Quilt of Common Threads in Cos Cob
The Friends and Staff of the Cos Cob Library welcome the 11th biennial exhibit of the Common Threads Quilters through Saturday at the Cos Cob Library, 5 Sinawoy Road.
In September of 1994 a diverse group of women with a common love of quilts gathered at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center and founded Common Threads Quilters. Their goals were to designate time for work on individual projects; share ideas, techniques and enthusiasms; and to promote the art and craft of quilt making in our community. The members live in the greater Greenwich area and meet regularly in the Cos Cob Library Community Room. In the spring of 2001 Quilts of Common Threads was the first major exhibit in the new Cos Cob Library building.
Quilts of Common Threads 2023 exhibit may be viewed during library hours: Monday noon to 8 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Phone the library to be sure the exhibit areas are available for viewing at 203-622-6883.
Tree experts to meet
The Greenwich Tree Conservancy, Greenwich Land Trust, and Greenwich Library are teaming up to bring Greenwich residents a panel of tree experts to discuss solutions for challenges facing our native trees at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at Greenwich Library.
Learn how to support trees' health and defend against rising pests and diseases.
Moderated by Will Kies, executive director of Greenwich Land Trust, the panel of experts includes associate scientist and forest pathologist Robert Marra from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, Jack Swatt, president of CT Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation, and Greg Kramer, Greenwich's superintendent of Parks and Trees and tree warden.
