Haley ‘honored’ by Greenwich’s Judge Judy’s support

GOP presidential candidate celebrates endorsement in viral social media post

Greenwich resident Judith “Judge Judy” Sheindlin, the acerbic arbiter who spent decades overseeing the TV courtroom of her eponymous show, had a viral moment Thursday after taking her rulings from the bench to the ballot box.

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley Thursday posted on social media a quote from the celebrity judge’s endorsement, garnering hundreds of thousands of views on X (formerly Twitter), and thousands of reposts. The post comes just days before a heated New Hampshire primary where Haley, with the backing of Governor Chris Sununu, hopes to humble GOP frontrunner Donald Trump in a bid to unseat President Joe Biden. It’s also just days after Trump trounced Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the Iowa Caucus. Haley finished a near third to DeSantis, despite plenty of runway between the two and Trump.

“Neither Biden nor Trump would know a Houthi form a salami unless someone whispered in their ear or spelled it out for them on a teleprompter,” the judge’s quote reads, referring to the U.Sdesignated terrorist organization from Yemen. “We need a president who knows what’s happening — because that’s essential to knowing how to respond.”

The initial endorsement came last week in the form of a press release from the Haley campaign. Haley said she was “honored” to have the endorsement.

“Judge Judy gets it – what this country needs is no chaos, no drama, no nonsense… just results,” Haley wrote in a Facebook post. “Honored to have your support, Judge.”

Sheindlin Wednesday published an op-ed in the Daily Mail expounding on her support for Haley. Sheindlin highlighted Haley’s two terms as South Carolina governor and the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations as a track record of success.

“What I admire most is that she’s always sought consensus — not with watered-down compromise, but with common sense solutions. And she gets results, not with baloney and bravado, but with hard, clear-eyed work,” the judge wrote. “Simply, Nikki Haley is the only candidate in the 2024 race with true executive gravitas.”

Sheindlin, 81, focused on Trump and Biden in her op-ed but did not mention DeSantis. She said Trump might have business acumen but “he is not a leader,” and said of Biden, “I’ve never seen greatness or anything close to it in his 53-year political career.”

She also focused on the candidates’ ages. Trump is 77 years old and Biden is 81.

“Let’s be honest here: I am 81 years old, and I run a successful business. I am considered the matriarch of a family of twenty,” Sheindlin wrote. “I work out every day and have an active social life. Do I have strong opinions about the world we live in? You bet I do. But I would never have the chutzpah to tell you that I have the same stamina I had a decade ago, and surely not two decades ago.”

It’s not Sheindlin’s first foray into politics. She endorsed billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg when he ran as a Democrat in the 2020 Presidential Election.
