John Andrews Minor
John ( Jack) Andrews Minor passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Friday, January 19, 2024. Jack was born in Albany, NY on March 29, 1937 to Payson and Lucille Minor and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Birgit Svendsen Minor, his two children, Karen Minor Danvers (David) and Mark Andrews Minor (Alison), and 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Erik and Alison Danvers and Lauren and Payson Minor (to whom he was known as Morfar/ Farfar).
After graduating from Albany Academy, Jack spent the next 4 years at Union College, Schenectady, NY and graduated in 1959, following his uncle Jim Haber who graduated in 1927. Subsequently his brother Bill (1963) and his daughter Karen (1991) graduated from Union as well as his son-inlaw David (1990).
Jack had a very successful career in advertising and marketing, working at several advertising agencies in New York and later in the food and liquor industries as a Senior Product Manager with Salada Foods in Woburn, MA, the Kellogg Co. in Battle Creek, MI, and in senior management positions with Joseph E. Seagram & Sons in New York, San Francisco, and Hocheim, Germany.
As a member of Riverside
Yacht Club since 1984, Jack was active in many big projects for The Club while enjoying sailing with his family on Kittiwake and skeet shooting with Mark. When not on the water, Jack enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and working on his house and garden. He loved art, engineering, and Danish culture. He was on the board of the Greenwich Symphony, the SUNY Maritime Parents Association, and the Beachaven Association in Siesta Key, Florida, where he spent many hours on the golf course, swimming in the Gulf, and spending time with family. Many vacations were spent in Denmark with Birgit’s family, exploring Copenhagen and the countryside and many small towns throughout the country.
The family will hold a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity in Jack’s name.
