World’s No. 1 golfer commits to Travelers

- By Joe Morelli

The world’s No. 1 golfer is the first commitment announced for the 2024 Travelers Championship.

Scottie Scheffler is committed to return to TPC River Highlands in Cromwell to play in the Travelers Championship. Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champion, is currently second in the FedExCup standings. He has six PGA Tour victories overall.

“Getting a commitment from the top-ranked player in the world sets the perfect tone for this year’s world-class Travelers Championship. Scottie has accomplished so much on the golf course, and he’s even more impressive off the course with the way he handles himself and treats everybody,” said Andy Bessette, chief administrative officer and executive vice president of the Travelers Championship, in a statement. “With the best in the world coming to Connecticut, our fans are in for a spectacular week of golf.”

The Travelers Championship will be a Signature Event on the PGA Tour for the second consecutive year. The tournament will be held June 20-23. Last year, 38 of the top 50 in the world rankings played the event. Only 43 were eligible due to either injury or those golfers playing on the LIV Tour.

This year’s event will have no cut and will be a limited field of no more than 70-80 golfers.

Scheffler tied for fourth last year behind champion Keegan Bradley, who won with a tournament record total of 23-under-par 257. He tied for 13th in 2022.

“Our world-class player field this year will rival almost any in golf, so knowing that Scottie is coming for the fifth straight year will be very exciting for our fans. In addition to seeing the best players, spectators will enjoy new features from venues to unique food experiences that will add to the overall quality of the tournament,” tournament director Nathan Grube said in a statement.
