After announcing his departure from WTNH and his meteorologist profession in December, Sam Kantrow has returned to the airwaves as a meteorologist for WFSB.

Kantrow teased his return last week on Facebook, adding that he took a “slight detour on my way to retirement from TV.” On Saturday, Kantrow had his first broadcast with the station.

“So a lot of you figured this out yesterday but I’m (hanging) with some new pals for a while on the weekends at the biggest station in CT and helping with vacations here and there,” Kantrow said on Facebook.

“Guess I have to pay attention to the weather again.”

In December, Kantrow announced that he was leaving his profession of more than a decade to focus on raising his three sons.

“I am leaving television. It has been a humbling experience that I am lucky to have been able to experience with all of you. From hurricanes to tornadoes to snowstorms, it’s been incredible to serve all of you,” Kantrow had previously said.

“I screwed up plenty of times ... blew the forecast more than I can count, but my sincerest hope is that you were able to see that I never faltered from being genuinely myself whether I was on TV or chatting with so many of you in the grocery store.”

A Hamden native, Kantrow attended Western Connecticut State University, where he majored in meteorology, according to his LinkedIn. Kantrow had previously spent 12 years as a meteorologist and broadcast journalist.

Last week, WFSB meteorologist Lorin Richardson announced that she was leaving the station after four years with the company. The Trumbull native joined the station in September 2020 after previously working as an onair host for the WICC radio station, according to her LinkedIn.
