The Greenwich Youth Conservation Program, a long-running program for teenagers to “learn and earn,” is seeking applicants for the coming summer session.

GYCP is for 14- and 15-year olds who work over the summer to improve green spaces in town, like Bruce Park, Cos Cob Park, Greenwich Point and more.

Participants will also learn about personal budget management, resume writing and decision-making.

Each teen will receive a $275 stipend for their work, thanks to local sponsors and donors. The program is administered by the town’s Human Services and Parks and Recreation departments.

There are 112 spots available to students who live in Greenwich, or attend public or private school there.

The application, which is available online, is due April 26.

The program has four 10-day sessions between late June and mid-August. Selected participants will be assigned to one the four sessions.

Final selections will be made in mid-May. Parents and students must attend a mandatory online family orientation in June.

The Greenwich Parks and Recreation Foundation will hold its second annual beautification of Mianus River Park later this month.

Volunteers will plant trees along the trail’s entrance, install native plantings near the parking lot, remove invasive species, pick up debris and more.

“We invite the community to come and give back to the town parks that have given us so much,” Parks and Recreation Director Joe Siciliano said in a statement. “If you haven’t been to Mianus River Park in a while, the Earth Day Clean-Up and Beautification is an excellent opportunity to discover it again.”

Greenwich Parks Department will provide shovels, hand shears, rakes, hand saws and garbage bags, but volunteers should bring their own tools if they have them.

The cleanup event is set for 9 a.m. to noon April 27 at Mianus River Park. Volunteers will gather at the Cognewaugh Street entrance at 450 Cognewaugh Road.

To RSVP or for any questions, please contact Town of Greenwich Parks and Recreation Foundation co-chair Sue Bodson at sembodson@gmail.com.

Alliance Française of Greenwich will bring the Focus on French Cinema festival back to Fairfield County starting next week.

The Alliance will kick off 10 days of French cinema on April 25 with a screening of “Rachel’s Game” (or “Les Rois de la piste”) at the Avon Theatre in Stamford, followed by a question and answer session with the film’s director Thierry Klifa.

There will be two other screenings at the Avon Theatre as well as virtual screenings of other French films. There will also be several interviews with French actors and filmmakers which will be available for online viewing.

“After the challenges of the COVID crisis, it is exciting to expand the number of public theatrical screenings this year to three events,” FFC director of programming Joe Meyers said in a statement. “We are also continuing the very popular online aspect of FFC with a selection of new French-language films not available on any streaming platforms.”

Visit the Focus on French Cinema website for tickets and additional information.
