Wellness Wonders
“I’m well,” most folks respond without hesitation to the question, “How are you?” But do you ever take a moment to wonder if you’re truly well? In our society, wellness has evolved to something more than just good health. It’s an ongoing circle that affects various aspects of our life from physical and emotional to intellectual, environmental and financial well-being. Just to be free from disease is hardly one piece of the pie.
Continuously working toward bettering ourselves, however, and reaching our full potential are all part of a dynamic process of growth. To take your wellness beyond simply feeling fine, the Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium is offering the Calusa Wellness Program, designed with various membership levels.
The center introduced it to inspire like-minded individuals to connect with nature, themselves and one another; help them incorporate healthy habits into their lives; and learn how wellness goes beyond just how they feel.
Kaitlin Danks, director of administration at the nature center, said, “They wanted to create a program that would bring people together, encourage them to spend more time outdoors, and provide education in a safe and relaxing environment.”
The membership includes Yoga in Nature classes on Sunday mornings and guided wellness walks on the center’s nature trails on the third Thursday of each month. Wellness seminars, in which speakers discuss topics such as traditional Chinese medicine, meditation and sound healing, are held every first Thursday of the month.
Sherry Main from Cape Coral signed on when the program kicked off earlier this year as a way to spend more time in nature, practice yoga on a regular basis, and learn about taking control of her overall wellbeing. “The Sunday morning yoga has been wonderful and very relaxing,” she said, adding that she found the seminars to be interesting and hands-on.
