SWFL JOURNAL
Celebrating Independence Day with sparklers on the beach. Subdued, but we still had a blast (so to speak).
Sunday
Turns out, the face-mask tan is not a good look.
Tuesday
I’ve now cleaned out every closet twice. I’m so organized that I can’t find anything.
Friday
Time to head to town and provision up. I think curbside pickup is here to stay—and that’s OK by me.
Thursday
A morning on the tennis courts with M, playing singles. In normal times, we would be watching the Wimbledon Championships now, with strawberries and cream. But it’s canceled for the first time since World War II.
Sunday
More boats on the water today than cars on the road. Just that kind of day. Then why am I in my car instead of the Grady-White? Maybe next week.
Wednesday
Hump day—deserves some takeout from one of the local eateries. What shall it be? Shrimp? Snapper? Scallops? Definitely in a seafood mood.
Saturday
S is suggesting a drive down to the Loop Road in Big Cypress today. Says the last time she went, she saw a bear! Not to mention dozens of alligators.
Sunday
Expectations met on the Loop Road. No bear today, but the gators were present and the scenery was breathtaking.
Tuesday
Sun is shining, light breeze, no storms in the forecast. A relaxing afternoon on the water sounds like a good bet. Take advantage now, because tomorrow could bring thunder and lightning.
Wednesday
Didn’t I just say it? A massive thunderstorm hit hard this evening. Torrential downpour. Suddenly, I have waterfront property.
Thursday
Went out for a walk around the neighborhood this morning. There were a few downed tree limbs, but the air felt rain-fresh.
Monday
OK, I admit it. This is the time of year when the fresh mountain air of North Carolina beckons.
Friday
Maybe I can’t get to the mountains any time soon, but the Peace River just north of here is a nice alternative. It lives up to its name.
Sunday
Arms are a little sore from kayaking on the river yesterday, but well worth it. Shady, meandering waterway with a nice breeze. Couldn’t ask for better.
Wednesday
Has it been about a month since I cleaned a closet? Maybe it’s time to start again. Or … I could just go to the beach. That’s a better idea.
