Fitness and wellness

Fitness and wellness are more important now than they’ve been due to many circumstances. The world we live in today makes it much easier to put off exercising. Cycling is a great way to burn calories and exercise.

Cycling helps increase cardiovascular fitness, increase muscle strength and flexibility, improve joint mobility, decrease stress levels, improve posture and coordination, strengthen bones, decreases body fat levels and prevent disease.

Cycling burns between 400 to 1,000 calories per hour, depending on intensity and rider weight. The resistance element of cycling builds muscle, particularly around the glutes, hamstrings, quads and calves. The University of Glasgow did research over 260,000 individuals in the last five years and learned that cycling can cut a riders

risk of developing heart disease or cancer in half. Cycling also is low impact.

Pushing pedals while you’re cycling provides an aerobic workout that is great for your brain, heart and blood vessels. An aerobic exercise triggers the release of endorphins (the body’s feel-good chemicals) which may make you feel young at heart.

There are many choices to choose from if you want to try cycling. Cycling outside can give a mental boost. Exer

cising in a natural environment is associated with greater revitalization, increased energy and has a positive engagement. Cycling outdoors is shown to decrease tension, confusion, anger and depression. Another great way to enjoy cycling is to join a spin class. For people that prefer a stationary exercise and enjoy working out with a group or instructor, this could be the way to go.
