TEXAS COUNTY – Mia Taylor, a 20-yearold woman from La Vista, Nebraska, was pronounced deceased at the scene of an accident two miles west of Guymon Wednesday evening, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

At approximately 7:41 p.m., Taylor drove a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado eastbound on

US-54 behind a 2008 Kenworth driven by 51-year-old Prospero Galdamez of Merino Valley, California. As Galdamez slowed to make a right turn off US-54, Taylor’s vehicle rear-ended the truck.

Taylor was pinned for nearly 40 minutes before Guymon Fire could extract her from the wreckage using Hurst Tools. She was pronounced deceased from head, arm, trunk internal, trunk external and leg injuries at the scene by Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley. Galdamez was uninjured.

Guymon resident Billie Jean Courtney saw the accident firsthand as she was leaving the

Golden Mesa Casino and assisted Galdamez in calling 9-1-1. “The accident was horrible,” she commented. “...I was waiting to turn onto the highway, and a semi was driving very slowly on the highway in front of me. Then I heard a very loud bang... I got out of my car and [flagged] down a semi that was turning into the casino and got him to call 9-1-1...” Courtney said that at that time, the driver of the 2008 Kenworth truck approached her to let her know that he had called 9-1-1 on his phone. She continued, “...I grabbed his phone to talk to the 9-11 operators and let them know the accident had occurred, and they let me know that EMS was in route. Meanwhile, the driver of the semi... was trying to render aid to the victim that was under the truck. ...A nurse stopped to help also.”

The Texas County Sheriff’s department and Guymon Fire/EMS assisted the OHP on the scene. Investigating OHP trooper Levi Hill of the Cimarron Texas detachment of Troop I determined that the accident was caused by inattentive driving.
