Donald Dwane DeSpain, 76, longtime Guymon resident passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 8, 2020 at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County.

The son of Ora and Opal Cloyse (Adams) DeSpain, he was born December 28, 1943 in Gate, Oklahoma. Don, affectiona­tely known as Spanky, moved to Guymon from Straight in 1961. He attended school in Hooker, graduating with the HHS Class of 1961.

Don then attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He decided to take a semester off and was drafted. He served in the United States Army in Korea from 1965-1967. Fol

lowing his honorable discharge he returned to college, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mathematic­s in 1971. Spanky was an avid bowler and golfer, having played for both Hooker High School and Panhandle State golf teams.

Don and Mary Marie Tramel were united in marriage on November 4, 1969 in Clayton, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2006. He and Tim Campbell owned and operated Sedco, LLC, a land surveying company in Guymon for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Marie; one sister, Laura Hill and six brothers: Tracy Beene, Charles DeSpain, Ron DeSpain, Gary DeSpain, O.J. DeSpain and Charles Beene.

Survivors include his daughter, Cindy and husband, Danny Powers of Enid, Oklahoma; one sister, Louise Armstrong of Cunningham, Kansas; one brother, Johnnie DeSpain and wife, RaJeanna of Goodwell; close friend, Tonya Folsom of Guymon along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, December 11th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, December 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the Guymon First Christian Church with Pastor Larry Watson officiatin­g. Interment with U.S. Army Honors will follow in the Elmhurst Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
