Meet the candidate Dolan Sledge
TEXAS COUNTYAs the Feb. 9 election to determine the new Texas County Commissioner nears, candidate Dolan Sledge speaks on issues in the county and his plans if elected commissioner.
Born and raised in Texas County, Sledge has worked for the county road department since 1996 until 2012, when he then worked as an officer for the Guymon Police Department.
Returning to the road department for a year, Sledge then headed to the Sheriff’s Office and served there for four years. It wasn’t until this past September that Sledge was offered the position as road foreman by the late Richard Bryan, for which he has also picked up responsibilities as county commissioner.
Sledge recognizes the concerns regarding Memorial Hospital of Texas County. “I want what’s best for Texas County, as far as the hospital,” Sledge commented.
“Former com- missioners, as well as the present county commissioners, have done everything that they possibly can to ensure that it stays open.” With the new CEO, William Ermann, stepping in, Sledge shares that “... there’s been improvement” and hopes that it will continue.
Another big issue Sledge plans to work on if elected are the roads in Texas County. He shares that with the skilled employees at the road department, as well as their experience and his, he believes they “...can find ways to efficiently get more road projects done, more quickly.”
The biggest change Sledge anticipates to bring to office is finding ways to use what our county already has more efficiently, in order to afford to get more accomplished. He expresses that his experi
ence with the county is what sets him apart from the other candidate.
“I believe that working well with the county and its employees is [another] thing that sets me apart as well,” he stated.
