-

Mr. Gerald Loyd Vaughn, age 60, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, South Carolina, surrounded by family. The Home Going Service was held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9th, 2021, at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 2027 Emorywood Drive, Charlotte, NC, 28210.

Born in Muleshoe, Texas, Gerald was a son of the late Loyd Wesley and the recently deceased Glenda Rae Hicks Vaughn, who joined Gerald in Heaven just two days after. Gerald was the first grandchild of the late Gifford R. Hicks and Mabel S. Hicks.

Gerald graduated Hereford High School with the class of 1978. He excelled in football and track and field. He attended West Texas A&M University, Canyon, Texas, then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he became involved in the broadcasting industry for the INSP Network and the Weather Channel, working his way up from set builder, technical support and cameraman on several national programs to become an indemand, award-winning satellite engineer who worked with top college and professional sports broadcasting crews for such prestigious companies and organizations as Jefferson-Pilot Sports, Raycom Sports, NASCAR, the National Football League, the Atlantic Coast Conference, Duke University, Wake Forest University and the Liberty University Flames Sports Network. Through the decades in his chosen industry, he earned a well-deserved reputation as a dedicated, hard-working, highly professional and creative innovator, as well as a caring mentor to numerous up-and-coming sports broadcasters and technicians.

Gerald enjoyed corny jokes, good food (including both Texas and Carolina barbeque), spending time with his family and friends, as well as a reputation for his sweet tooth and his warm heart. He was gifted at making people laugh wherever he went, for watching the same small list of favorite movie classics, and for being the master of gadgets.

He received Jesus Christ into his heart as young Texas boy, but he will be remembered everywhere he went for his unwavering faith and faithfulness that grew even stronger when he faced life’s inevitable challenges, especially during his brave fight against cancer.

Surviving are his daughters, Laurel Elizabeth Vaughn, Bekah Vaughn Wood (and her husband Mike Martin Wood), his brothers, Steve Lynn Vaughn and Travis Glen Vaughn, his grandchildren Lexi Marie Wood and Maddi Grace Wood, and a host of loving family, friends and co-workers who will remember Gerald Loyd Vaughn as a true, one-of-a-kind original!
