Glenda Vaughn

Glenda Rae Hicks Vaughn, was born March 26, 1941, Liberal, Kansas, to Gifford R. Hicks and Mabel F. Sledge Hicks. She passed on Sunday, March 7, 2021, Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 79.

The eldest of six children, Glenda attended Yarbrough Schools in the Oklahoma Panhandle, graduating with the class of 1959. She participat­ed in numerous activities, including band, pep club, glee club, the Oklahoma State Championsh­ip debate team, editor of the school yearbook, and was voted “Most Popular Girl” her senior year. She was Valedictor­ian of her Senior Class and was awarded a full scholarshi­p to Panhandle Agricultur­al and Mechanical College, now named Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

Glenda was betrothed to Loyd Wesley Vaughn, June 27, 1959, Elkhart, Kansas. Of this union were born three sons: Gerald L. Vaughn, Steven L. Vaughn, and Travis G. Vaughn. Glenda and Loyd farmed near the Texas towns of Muleshoe and Hereford, during which they were honored as “The Farm Bureau Texas Farm Family of the Year.”

In 1983, the Vaughns moved to Oklahoma, settling in Stillwater, where they resided the remainder of their lives. Glenda was employed by City of Stillwater until her retirement.

Glenda and Loyd were participan­ts in Kairos Prison Ministry Team and Walk to Emmaus for a number of years. They attended Lost Creek Methodist Church, Stillwater, Oklahoma, where Glenda served for many years as organist.

Glenda was predecease­d by her husband, Loyd W. Vaughn, her father, Gifford R. Hicks, her mother, Mabel S. Hicks, and her eldest son, Gerald L. Vaughn. She is survived by her son, Steven L. (Leeann) Vaughn (PA), son, Travis G. Vaughn (OK); her granddaugh­ters, Rebekah (Mike) Wood (NC), Laurel Vaughn (TN), Keileigh (Nolan) Neugebauer (TX), grandson Kamron (Kaylee) Vaughn (OK), great-grandchild­ren Alexis and Madelynn Wood, Kaleb and Addie Neugebauer, and Carl Silas Vaughn, brothers Jim (Monica) Hicks (TX), Curt Hicks (TX), Darryl (Karen) Hicks (TX), Wendell (Treva) Hicks (OK), and sister Sheila (Russ) Killingswo­rth (OK).

A private graveside service will be held at a later time.
