Aggie Softball extends win streak to eight with Langston sweep

GOODWELL, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team swept its second-consecutiv­e series – and winning its eighthstra­ight game – in a quartet of Sooner Athletic Conference wins over Langston University. The Aggies (13-19, 7-13 SAC) posted dominating numbers versus the Lions, winning by scores of 11-3, 8-0, 5-4 and 9-1.

Just one of the four games even went a full seven innings. The other three were shortened by the run rule. Panhandle outscored Langston 33-8 in the series.

OPSU batters hit an impressive .413 in 104 at-bat, collecting 43 hits. Among those hits were six doubles, four triples and three home runs. The Aggies

drove in 31 runs and had a .443 onbase average.

The offense was led by the tandem of Caitley Adams and Kayli Grove. Adams, a sophomore right-fielder, hit .545 (6-11) with a double and two triples. She scored five runs and drove in three. Adams had a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base average.

Grove, a senior outfielder, smacked the ball for a .500 average (7-14). Grove had a “series cycle”, with four singles, a double, triple and home run. Her homer was a grand slam in the fourth game of the series, helping her to a total of seven runs batted in. She scored five runs, as well. Senior second baseman Jaylinn Reyes matched Grove with seven hits in the 15 at-bats (.467), leading OPSU with six runs scored. Senior shortstop Kinzie Jones had a .455 batting average, going 5-for-11 with four RBI. Camryn Pryor drove in six runs, as well.

Jones and Pryor had one homer each. From the circle, the Aggies’ tandem of freshman Kenley Yocom and sophomore Sarah Conley threw all the innings, each going 2-0 in the series. Yocom did not give up an earned run in her 11.0 innings pitched. She had seven strikeouts and walked just one Lion batter.

Conley had 12.0 innings and a 2.92 earned run average for the series. Conley had 13 strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
