Rev up the engines … get your motor running … The Iron Thunder Motorcycle Club (ITMC) is putting up the kick stand and starting up the Fall meetings.

“The focus of the ITMC is the annual motorcycle run in May, and to provide money for medical costs who have health crisis in the area,” Sara Jane Richter, with the ITMC, said.

The proceeds raised from the run are used to help defray the cost of the event and to provide medical expense relief for those in need. Nominations are made quarterly and three people are selected to receive support in the amount of $1,000.

“Anyone can join us … young, old, and in between. A person does not need to own or even ride a motorcycle,” she said.

The Iron Thunder Motorcycle Club is gearing up for the 20th anniversary event. Last year, due to Covid as with many other events across the nation, the run did not take place. The club is ready to get the next run under way and counting down the days to the 20th anniversary run which is set to take place in 2022.

“The club needs willing hands on the day of the run to help at sign in during the early morning and during the banquet, at the end of the run. Volunteers are also needed at the various stops along the route,” she said.

While volunteers are a crucial part in making sure the run goes off successfully, local businesses who want to support us can do so by donating financially, at any time of the year, or by donating material goods.

“They can sponsor activities at the Outback even the night before the run and help defray cost of signage or printing; we need port-a-poties sponsors or be willing to have their doors open the night before the run,” she said “The donation options are endless; we need water, coffee, cokes, donuts and other snacks for the run participants. They can donate items as a way to help us fundraise … the possibilities really are endless.”

The monthly meetings for the Fall have kicked off and those who are interested in joining the efforts are encouraged to attend. The meeting agendas focus on preparing for the run and selecting the nominees that will be supported.

“The club members are friendly and welcoming to any person who expresses an interest in the open road, understands the sense of freedom gained on the open road, and shares the spirit and camaraderie of riding and traveling the highways of Oklahoma, America,” she said.

The next run is May 14, 2022 and the meetings take place at 5 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, in the Main Street Guymon office, located at 116 NE 5th.
