A day in the life: The Golden Mesa Casino maintenance team
The Golden Mesa Casino's maintenance team has gone above and beyond for this community without a lot of recognition. The maintenance team is built up of six guys who have worked especially hard during this time. The casino is a part of lighting up Thompson Park for the “Home for the Holidays” event and the team as put in many long hours to make sure everything is perfect.
Rudy is the newest member of the maintenance crew but has worked at the casino for two years. He started working as maintenance right as they started this project. On a daily basis, they do their normalities such as getting the trash picked up, but they are now learning how to weld and build things for “Home for the Holidays” as well as putting everything together in the park. Rudy likes maintenance and this time during the project because he has the freedom of creativity. Rudy designed an ornament and archways that he got some help with building.
Skyler has worked at the casino for a year now. He stays busy throughout the day doing all sorts of different things. He likes the fact that they can do different things every single day and that it's not always the same exact thing.
Elder and Derrick have worked at the casino since before it even opened. Elder said,” I like everything about my job. I like teaching the others how to weld. I am not just teaching but I am also learning something new every day.” Elder wants everyone to know that the maintenance guys work hard. They take care of not only the outside of the casino but also the air quality and temperature control inside. “Any project we get, we knock it out. We always go above and beyond,” Elder said.
Lane has worked at the casino for the last eight months. He said,” I love all the new experiences and skills I've obtained. Some of the skills I have learned are carpentry and welding.” Lane also hopes this brings more respect, not only to the maintenance guys but also to the grounds of the casino.
Armando has been at the casino for a year, as of Wednesday. His day includes a bunch of paperwork, schedules, and making sure everyone is in line. “I love the co-workers, meaning everyone including the bosses. The environment at the casino is great and everyone is
pretty friendly. I hope people appreciate what we do. We have been working long hours trying to do this (lighting up the park and building everything from the bottom up). I hope people recognize who did it and hope everyone takes care of it. Everyone is doing an awesome job, I appreciate all their hard work,” he said, “I've learned a lot from Derrick and Elder and I am learning as I go.”
All of the guys hope this project is the beginning of many more projects. They hope to add more and more to light up the park every year. Remember to thank everyone who contributes to this community, whether it is big or small because you never know how much work they have put into doing it.
