Loyal “Butch” Rhoden, Sr.

Loyal Dean “Butch” Rhoden, Sr., 87, lifelong Texhoma resident passed away Monday, April 25, 2022 at the Senior Village Nursing Home in Perryton, Texas.

The son of Everette Merle and Laura Margaret (Schultz) Rhoden he was born October 7, 1934 in Texhoma,. Butch attended the Texhoma School system. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force from April 1952 until April 1956, when he received his honorable discharge.

Butch and Ola Mae Gore were united in marriage on November 29, 1957 in Texhoma. Butch worked in the farming industry for several years, as well as maintainin­g the Texhoma Apartments. Butch was a member and past president of Texhoma Jaycee’s, enjoyed square dancing and was an active member of Texhoma First Baptist Church. Butch was also known for his giving spirit, operating Rhoden Taxi Service where he helped many people get to appointmen­ts and volunteere­d for Meals on Wheels from its originatio­n in 1994 up until 2021. He was also active in Texhoma Keenagers for 20-plus years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Beverly Jean Bennett and Clara Belle Linvick, two brothers: Bill James and Willis Frazier; two grandchild­ren, J.W. and Tiffany; and one great grandson.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 64 years, Ola Mae Rhoden; four children: Dean Rhoden and wife, Cheryl of Texhoma, Frank Rhoden and wife, Darla of Perryton, Texas, Tammy Teel and husband, David of Arkansas City, Kansas and Renee Ellis and husband, Ty of Texhoma; eleven grandchild­ren: Jennifer, Holly, Brian, Corey, Wesley, Robert, Nicholas, Steven, Jeremie, Dalton and Quintin; 27 great grandchild­ren; one sister, Peggy Coffman of Guymon; one brother, Buster Spradling and wife, Lucille of Mooreland; sisters-in-law: Carletta Frazier of Justin, Texas and Wynelle and Herb Hager of Canyon, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 29 at 10 a.m. at the Texhoma First Baptist Church with Pastor Darren Carpenter officiatin­g. Interment with military honors will follow at the Texhoma Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
