Texas Tech continues surge beating Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. — Fardaws Aimaq recorded a double-double and Jaylon Tyson scored 18 on 7-for-8 shooting and Texas Tech beat Oklahoma 74-63 on Tuesday night to keep the Sooners in the Big 12 Conference cellar and extend their win streak to four.

Aimaq scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds and Kevin Obanor and Pop Isaacs each scored 11.

Tanner Groves scored 16 points, Jalen Hill scored 14 and Grant Sherfield and Milos Uzan 10 each for the Sooners.

Joe Bamisile’s 3-pointer brought Oklahoma within 62-59 with 3:47 to go before Obanor responded with a layup and a dunk and the Red Raiders maintained safe space from there.

Texas Tech (16-12, 5-10) has won six of its last eight including backto-back wins against No. 12 Kansas State and No. 6 Texas.

For its part, Oklahoma (13-15, 3-12) entered having the split the same opponents, beating Kansas State before dropping an 85-83 contest against Texas. The Sooners have lost nine of 11.

WEST VIRGINIA 85, OKLAHOMA ST. 67

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Erik Stevenson scored 23 points, Tre Mitchell added a seasonhigh 22 and West Virginia rolled to an 85-67 victory over Oklahoma State on Monday night.

Stevenson made 5 of 6 shots from 3-point range and grabbed five rebounds for the Mountainee­rs (16-10, 5-10 Big 12), who snapped a three-game skid. Mitchell sank 8 of 14 shots and 6 of 7 free throws. Kedrian Johnson pitched in with 12 points and three steals before fouling out.

Caleb Asberry scored 15 points and Bryce Thompson added 14 for the Cowboys (16-12, 7-8), who have lost three straight after a five-game win streak.

West Virginia took control over a span of 6:42 in the first half. Seth Wilson made a jumper, Mohamed Wague followed with back-to-back dunks and Stevenson hit a jumper and two straight 3-pointers to cap a 16-0 run for a 32-14 Mountainee­rs’ lead with 4:02 remaining.
