Residents looking for outdoor fun combined with a new and different shopping experience can visit the West Chester Market on Easter weekend for an egg hunt on Saturday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Guests can bring their own basket or bag to The Square at Union Center and collect candy-filled eggs from the vendor booths while they shop.

We spoke to Monica Dexter, outreach coordinator for West Chester Township and found out more about what attendees can expect from the township’s egg hunt this year as well as the West Chester Market this spring.

Q: What’s in store for the market this season?

A: We are looking forward to a great season at the West Chester Market. With the faint hope of normalcy in our future, we plan to have more interactive activities for kids, more live music, and even more vendors this summer. We try to create a unique and fun experience that the community can enjoy every week.

Q: What shoppers can expect to find at the West Chester Market this spring?

A: The Market is always new and different. Some vendors are there all summer long and others are there only at specific times. What our guests can expect, is the unexpected and just a real

sense of community.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about the first market of the spring season?

A: We are looking forward to hosting West Chester Township’s spring egg hunt for Easter Weekend at the market on Saturday. Kids can bring a basket and collect candy-filled eggs from the vendors at the market, while supplies last. Fire and Police Department officials will also be on hand.

Q: Can you tell us about the variety of products community members will find at the market? Who are some of the vendors?

A: There’s something for everyone at the West Chester Market, and it changes throughout the season. Some local farmers sell fresh produce every week; bakers sell bread, cookies, and more; artisan food makers sell goodies and treats such as popcorn, kombucha, salsa, pickles; and craft makers sell jewelry, pottery, soap, and crochet items.

Q: In light of the pandemic, why do you feel it’s important to continue to try to bring events like West Chester Market to the community?

A: Farmers markets are considered an essential business by the health department, so West Chester is grateful we were able to remain open with safety protocols throughout the pandemic. Although our world is a bit different right now, we offer a safe, outdoor shopping experience. It is more important than ever to support local businesses. In fact, many vendors said 2020 was their most successful year yet.

Q: What are some of the things that the market takes pride in? What do you hope to offer the community?

A: Vendors often refer to their customers and each other as “family.” The market can truly be described as a warm, welcoming, one-ofa-kind experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

Q: Why would you encourage members of the community to come out and enjoy the market?

A: The West Chester Market is a perfect way to spend your Saturday morning/afternoon and connect with community. You can pick up your produce for the week, shop for artisan crafts, grab a treat, and head over to The Square for a mini picnic.

Q: What are the dates of the future markets?

A: The Spring Market will be on The Square from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 3rd and Saturday, April 17th. The full market season will begin on Saturday, May 22nd and it will run every Saturday through the end of September from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on The Square. The Square @ Union Centre is located at 9285 Centre Pointe Drive.
